Duties
As a POLICE OFFICER, GS-0083-7, you will perform the following duties:
1. Performs the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions: Incumbent may full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence, and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction. The incumbent is required to meet all requirements of Federal, DoD, AF, MAJCOM, State, and local level rules and regulations to maintain trainings and weapons qualifications, as a police officer on a military installation, which may include maintaining Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification. Patrols the installation on foot or in vehicles; responds to alarms, irregularities, and unusual or suspicious circumstances; and investigates the incidents. Enforces traffic rules and regulations, including those related to speed, reckless and drunken driving. Exercises search and assists local, state, or federal law enforcement with arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action.
2. Conducts Investigations/Surveillance: Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher-level detectives assigned to the Squadron. Complaints range from simple inquiries to incidents/complaints requiring investigations that are relatively short in duration and end with the detention of a suspect. Interviews personnel and collects data while conducting formal investigations on foot or in vehicles and inquiries into criminal acts such as assaults, major vehicle accidents, larceny of and/or damage to government and private property, minor drug offenses, pay and allowance matters, misdemeanor offenses involving misuse of government computers, and other incidents as directed by competent authority. Determines the proper course of action and plans, coordinates, initiates, and takes actions necessary to resolve the complaint or inquiry. Investigations involve searching crime scenes for clues, interviewing witnesses, following leads, analyzing, and evaluating evidence, and locating and detaining suspects. Interviews subjects, complainants and witnesses to obtain information, takes written statements; conducts examination of crime scenes; searches for evidence; identifies evidence; collects, preserves, and submits crime laboratory evidence such as fingerprints, bloodstains, suspected narcotics, weapons, castings of footprints and tire prints, documents, etc., using special investigative techniques and equipment; safeguards evidence and assures integrity is not compromised for further examination.
3. Performs as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) Controller: Serves as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces. Executes the Quick Reaction Checklists (QRC) to ensure proper execution of routine, emergency, and alarm responses. Acts as the initial point of contact for all persons, activities, visitors, and complainants either in person or telephonically regarding any activity that require police actions. Receives, interprets, evaluates, and immediately decide what action is appropriate and implement that course of action.
4. Performs emergency response and incident command and control: Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g., active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS). Executes emergency response procedures designed to isolate, contain, and defeat hostile actions and restore normal operations as quickly and efficiently as possible. Establishes initial command and control as others react to neutralize threats, secure resources, personnel, and property. Responsibilities are not limited to investigate accidents, also summons rescue squads and firefighters, and redirects onlookers from scene; also responsible for establishing initial Entry Control Point (ECP), Traffic Control Points (TCP), directing emergency vehicles to safe routes, clearing cordon areas, and evacuating buildings.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required within one year of the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Ohio Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Qualifying general experience includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
