* Preference given to Certified Police Officers (certified officers will not have to take the exam, but will have to complete a background investigation). Certified officers will start at Step consistent with CLEST-verified years and certificate level.
* For 2024, pay for non-certified officers begins at $47,192 (which is $44,945 annually, plus 13 holidays $2,247); this does not include certificate pay, first responder pay, residency bonus (if applicable) or referral bonus (if applicable).
* Have tattoos? Some of us do too! They are allowed unless they are offensive (Police Chief's discretion).
Candidates must undergo an extensive hiring process which includes a physical fitness test, written examination, a stringent background investigation, polygraph testing, psychological evaluation, a structured interview, and a medical examination/drug screening. This recruitment will establish a standing eligibility list for future vacancies.
Minimum requirements include: Must be a U.S. citizen; at least 21 years of age; must obtain and maintain a valid Arkansas driver's license and have a good driving record at the time of employment and during tenure of employment; must have a high school diploma or GED; must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor crimes of a violent nature or involving moral turpitude, been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, been placed on diversion, nor have an expunged conviction.
Qualifications
1. Possess a valid Arkansas Driver's license before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position, 2. No visible tattoos while wearing long sleeve uniform shirt, 3. No felony convictions, 4. Must be a U. S. citizen, and 5. Be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check and other physical and psychological testing as required
Miscellaneous Information
Thirteen days of holiday pay in addition to salary. Life, medical, dental and optical insurance plans. LOPFI retirement plan. Education assistance reimbursement plan after one year of employment for a maximum of $5,000 per calendar year for undergraduate or graduate level coursework including fees or one vocational course per year. Able to use vacation and sick leave as it accrues. All uniforms and equipment furnished. Step pay scale.
