Position DetailsPosting Summary Position Title Police Officer Patrolman-Erie Campus Posting Number AS919P Subdivision Police & Safety Division Finance and Campus Operations Department Campus Police and Safety Location Erie, Pa Position Summary Gannon University, a Catholic university, seeks to fill the entry-level position of a full-time, sworn-in Police Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for patrolling the campus area by motor vehicle or foot; be a first responder to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations; be responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigations into significant and criminal incidents and will participate in crime prevention and community-oriented public safety programming.Requirements include a high school degree and successful completion of PA Act 120 Certification or equivalence. Two years of related experience in law enforcement background is strongly preferred. Must be able to maintain confidentiality; project a positive image; can work within a diverse population; work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts with regularity; have a valid driver's license along with a good driving record; lift 100lbs.; walk or stand for long periods of time and pass a drug screening test. In addition, knowledge of Commonwealth laws and rules, motor vehicle operations, personal conduct for students, employees, and visitors, and/or modern police practices is required. Must be able to support and promote the University's Mission.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Patrol University on foot, bicycle or in a motor vehicle to detect suspicious incidents and maintain public safety and detect security hazards. Make safety checks of University buildings and grounds.• Take measures necessary to safeguard the lives and property of all members of the University community, University jurisdiction and the visitors to the campus.• Investigate and/or take needed action regarding suspicious persons, incidents and conditions and reports actions, occurrences and conditions.• Investigate criminal, civil and other complaints (including those of motor vehicle violations) committed by or against the University community and forward results to appropriate units.• Prepare clear, accurate, and informative criminal, incident, administrative duties and other reports as directed or required.• Work special events or details (e.g., sporting events, concerts, demonstrations, strikes, etc.) to detect problems or illegal activities.• Must work a flexible schedule, including day and /or night shifts, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts regularly. Work will also include extra assignments/overtime on short notice or no notice.• Transport persons needing assistance during emergency and/or official business.• Respond to calls for service/assistance, escort service, and provide directions.• Enforce University regulations, Federal, State, and Local laws; and detect and apprehend violators.• Establish and maintain helpful and cooperative relations with University students, faculty, staff, visitors, and police and safety authorities in other jurisdictions; treat all with uniform courtesy and consideration.• Contribute to the overall success of the University Police and Safety Department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.• In particular, must observe department policy and University regulations in the use and discharge of firearms.• Perform all duties with the utmost confidentiality.We offer flexible work hours and a generous benefits package for full-time employees.

Must be willing and able to work whenever needed or required and may work long hours during investigations or events.Licenses and Certifications: Pennsylvania Act 120 certified or the equivalent from another state with the ability to be PA Act 120 certified.
