  • Physical Abilities Test (PAA): All applicants are required to pass the PAA test. The test consists of the following requirements:
    • A timed mile run
    • Push-ups (1 minute time limit-reps)
    • Sit-ups (1 minute time limit-reps) and
    • A timed 300 Meter run
  • The test is conducted in a continuous manner resulting in a total composite score. To receive a passing score, the candidate must complete the PAA in a time period established based on minimum age requirements or less.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all City of Doral required pre-employment examination requirements.
*NOTE TO APPLICANTS*Proof of successful completion of BAT, or CJBAT is not required with the application, however candidates must successfully complete all of these exams prior to scheduling the panel interview.
  • Individuals who desire to enter a basic recruit training program for law enforcement or corrections must first pass a basic abilities test. This test was adopted by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission pursuant to Section 943.17, F.S., and further detailed in F.A.C. 11B-35.0011(1).
  • As of July 1, 2022, Florida State Statues , section 943.17(1)(g) states that any candidate wishing to enter a law enforcement academy that either (i) is a veteran as classified in section 1.01(14), F.S., or (ii) holds an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university is not required to take the Law Enforcement Basic Abilities Test. Please note that veteran is defined as being honorably discharged from military service. No other discharge classifications qualify. Please note that this does not apply to candidates wishing to enter a corrections academy.
  • The basic abilities test is sometimes referred to as BAT or CJBAT, which are the same.
  • Information regarding the content of the test is available through Pearson VUE.
  • The test cannot be taken more than three times per discipline during any 12-month period.
  • The test is administered only within the state of Florida.
This position is responsible for completing the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program and achieving a passing score on the State Officer Certification Examination. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn position that will have to meet all the requirements established under the Basic Recruit Training Program by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as outlined in Florida Statue 943.13. The City will pay the tuition and the officer examination fee for the employee to attend the basic recruit training program. However, the employee enters a 3-year commitment with the City. Supervision Received and Exercised This position is classified as a non-exempt, full-time position with a 40 hour work-week.This position works under the general supervision of the Chief of Police or designee. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Functions:
  • Timely attends and participates in all lectures, demonstrations, applications, formations, inspections, examinations, and any other gatherings conducted as a part of Basic Law Enforcement Courses and remedial training.
  • Studies, comprehends, retains, and successfully demonstrates attained knowledge and skills garnered from all lectures, texts, material, data, and any other sources of information on subjects presented by the institute.
  • Successfully demonstrates proficiency in all the designated high liability areas.
  • Maintains a healthy physical condition and demonstrates the skills necessary to agilely accomplish arduous and aqueous tasks, goals, assignments, etc.
  • Adapts and adheres to the conduct and attitudes required by training advisors, instructors, and administrators of the basic recruit training program at the CJSTC certified training school.
  • Is appropriately attired at all times as designated by the institute's Trainee Orientation Manual.
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related work as required.
Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Have earned a high school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Have not been convicted of any felony or of any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.

  • Have been fingerprinted by the employing agency with prints processed by the FDLE and the FBI.
  • Have successfully passed a background investigation, to include drug testing.
  • Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or certified advanced registered nurse practitioner.
  • Have completed a CJSTC-68 Affidavit of Applicant Form.
  • 3-year commitment:
    • The City will pay the tuition and the officer examination fee for the employee to attend the basic recruit training program. However, the employee enters a 3-year commitment with the City.
    • A Police Officer Trainee who attends such approved training program at the expense of the City must remain in the employment for a period of 3 years after graduation from the basic recruit training program. If employment or appointment is terminated on the trainee's own initiative within 3 years, he or she shall reimburse the employing agency for the full cost of his or her tuition and other course expenses.
    • An employing agency may institute a civil action to collect such cost of tuition and other course expenses as provided in this section if it is not reimbursed, provided that the employing agency gave written notification to the trainee of the 3-year employment commitment during the employment screening process. The trainee shall return signed acknowledgment of receipt of such notification.
    • The minimum standards for Payment and reimbursement are outlined in the Florida Statue 943.16.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIREDKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be fluent in the English language. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to study, comprehend, retain, and successfully demonstrate knowledge of various fields of law enforcement in the curricula of regularly scheduled Basic Law Enforcement Courses, or remedial academic or remedial in all high liability areas at a basic recruit training program at the CJSTC certified training school.

  • The minimum requirements may be waived by the City Manager.
Physical Requirements:

COMPENSATIONThe compensation for this role shall be $52,563.15. This classification is not eligible to receive cost of living adjustments (COLA). Additionally, the salary of the role will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains competitive with other agencies.INTRODUCTORY PERIODAn introductory period for an employee is twelve (12) months for entrance, rehire, and promotional appointments. In the event the employee accepts a promotional opportunity position within the City before an initial introductory period is satisfactorily completed, the initial introductory period starts over at the time the employee begins working in the new position.The introductory period is considered a continuation of the employment selection process. It provides the City an opportunity to observe and evaluate the capacity of the employee, which includes the employee's ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of his or her job; and to observe and evaluate the employee's work habits and conduct, including attendance and the employee's relationship with coworkers and superiors.During the introductory period, the new employee and the supervisor shall evaluate employment suitability in terms of skill, knowledge, performance, and compatibility. During this period, the employee shall be given the support and resources needed to learn and demonstrate the duties and competencies required in the new position.HOLIDAYS The City of Doral observes 12 paid holidays per year. In addition, employees receive two (2) personal days and (1) Birthday. The personal days must be used before the end of the fiscal year and the birthday must be taken within six (6) months of the birthday. Please note that during the academy period, you will only observe holidays that are in observance by the Police Academy. In addition, the City offers both short-term and long-term disability plans which act as income protection plans.RETIREMENT BENEFITSThe employee in this class is not eligible to receive retirement benefits under the 401(a) plan. However, they can enroll in 457 plan. The City does not make any contributions to this plan.457 SUPPLEMENTAL PLANThe City of Doral has a voluntary deferred compensation pension program available through ICMA where the employee can make contributions to their retirement. The City does not make any contributions to this plan.EDUCATION/TUITION REIMBURSEMENTThe City offers the Educational Reimbursement Program (ERP) established to provide educational assistance to full-time employees participating in training or educational programs designed to strengthen their abilities, which in turn directly benefit the City. The City will pay the State tuition rate to its members based on the letter grade obtained for each class. Employee must be a full-time employee for 6 months in order to be eligible for this benefit.BEREAVEMENT LEAVEUpon approval of the Department Head, a full-time employee may, upon request, be granted up to three (3) working days of leave with pay in the unfortunate event of a death in his or her immediate family, or up to five (5) working days of leave with pay to attend the funeral or memorial services of an immediate family member outside the State of Florida. The employee's immediate family shall be defined as the employee's spouse, father, mother, step-parents, natural, step and adopted children, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparents, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, grandparents-in-law, registered domestic partner, and child of a registered domestic partner. The bereavement leave must be taken consecutively, and the employee must attend the funeral of the deceased family member to be eligible for bereavement leave. If an employee needs time in excess of that provided in this policy, he or she may request accrued vacation time, sick time, or PTO with the approval of their department head. The City reserves the right to request all pertinent information including the deceased relative's name, relationship of the employee to the deceased, the name and address of the funeral home, and the date of the funeral. Documentation such as a death certificate, or other documentation on the deceased may be required for approval of the leave. VOTING LEAVE: Employees are encouraged to exercise their right to vote outside of their scheduled working hours. As such, all full-time employees as defined herein may be granted up to one hour of leave during polling hours in order to vote in federal, state or local elections, both primary and general elections. This time off shall be granted if it does not increase staffing cost or decrease departmental efficiency. Cadets not achieving a score of 75% on the final profile will be terminated by the City of Doral. To receive 100% on the physical profile you must properly execute: 12 pull-ups, 85 sit-ups, 60 push-ups, 41 treadmills, 60 bend/twists, 35 squat thrusters (aka.
