The incumbent will function as the Administrative Sergeant for the Orleans Levee District Police Department and reports directly to the Administrative Lieutenant. The Administrative Sergeant supervises the Orleans Levee District Police Reserve Police Officers, and the Communications Officers of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East. The incumbent oversees the department's civilian records technicians, maintains the department's training records and serves as the Orleans Levee District Police's liaison for the New Orleans Police Department and the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office. The incumbent in this position is required to be POST certified.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in law enforcement work.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
For some positions, evidence of POST certification must be submitted at the time of the application.
May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.
NOTE:
All classified jobs in State service with police officer and wildlife enforcement titles qualify as law enforcement.
Jobs outside State service that will qualify as law enforcement are those performed while commissioned with the power of arrest.
Military police in the armed services are law enforcement; security/guard duty is NOT qualifying.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To oversee a full range of police services on an assigned shift with primary emphasis on the enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs.

General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Police Officers 1, 2 and 3.

Differs from Police Officer 3 by the presence of direct supervisory responsibilities.
Differs from Police Lieutenant by the absence of second-line supervisory responsibilities or by serving as shift supervisor in a large university police department.
Examples of Work
10% Reserve Officer Duties
+ Ensure reserve officers meet minimum requirements with departmental commitments; monthly patrol hours, assigned duties etc.
+ Verify equipment responsibilities are in place Identify available police units for reserve officer usage, standardized duty equipment for new and current police reserves Schedule newly accepted reserve officers with appointed field training officers
+ Coordinate with reserve and full-time supervisors to ensure new reserves are properly on boarded into the department, knowing patrol systems and understanding policies and procedures
+ Review monthly line up and calculate total monthly hours worked in each reserve division; verify accumulated hours for the monthly SLFPA-E report
+ Ensure reserve officers are notified and comply with all on-line training responsibilities i.e. POST, Police One, LLETS, etc. Coordinate reserve officer schedules as needed for departmental events: Hurricane Duty, Night Out Against Crime and Lakeshore Drive Patrols
+ Maintain files on active/ inactive reserve and retired officers
+ Support division commanders to coordinate reserve officer manpower
40% Administrative
+ Liaison with New Orleans Police Department on law enforcement specific software
+ Liaison with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office on law enforcement specific request
+ Maintains records on law enforcement technology utilized by the police department
+ Provides general administrative support to the Administration and Investigations Unit Commander, Police Captain and Superintendent of Police
+ Maintain Inventory of issued equipment and assets
+ Submit purchase requisitions and maintain financial records for departmental purchases. Ensure that all purchase orders are completed and received by notifying the Receiving/Finance Department.
40% Training
Maintain officer training records, coordinate new training initiatives and requirements.
+ Assist and coordinate retraining and certifications of departmental instructors under the direct supervision of the training Lieutenant
+ Maintains records of uses in the police department's NCIC system
+ Ensures periodic federal and state training is conducted through LLETS and CHS
+ Coordinates POST required instructor training and ensures officer complete online training requirements - Assists in the maintenance of law enforcement records and creation of departmental credentials and identification
10% Additional Duties
+ Supplements patrol division as a shift supervisor as needed
+ Protects the integrity of the levee system via motorized vehicle and/or foot patrol
+ Works with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies as necessary
+ - Provides security for the public that utilize the levee system for recreational purposes
+ Routinely checks businesses and construction sites contiguous with the levee system to ensure proper permitting protocol is followed Issues warning notices, citations, misdemeanor summons, and makes lawful arrests when necessary
+ Take appropriate action when necessary to have any violations corrected
+ Completes all applicable paperwork that is mandated by law and documentation that is essential to the mission of the levee district
+ Maintains records of uses in the police department's NCIC system
+ Supervise and coordinate with dispatchers by checking Daily Logbook and police item sheets. Review dispatch records and recordings for compliance.
