Position SummaryPatrol SergeantDepartment of Public Safety & TransitFull-TimePrimary Responsibilities:* Supervise and mentor assigned subordinate staff, ensuring proper performance of duties and compliance with departmental standards* Assist with shift briefings, training initiatives, andperformance evaluations to support professional development* Address personnel issues, investigate misconduct allegations, and ensure resolution in alignment with department policies* Educate staff on municipal ordinances, state statutes, and emerging police technology or methodologies* Facilitate and audit the preparation of reports, warrant packages, and departmental records to ensure accuracy and compliance* Collaborate with legal and law enforcement partners, including testifying in court when necessary* Perform regular police officer duties and contribute to special projects as assigned* Review police documentation and conduct inspections of personnel, equipment, and overall operations* Enforce strict adherence to departmental policies and procedures* Actively engage with the community, participating in public presentations and outreach initiatives* Operate under the authority and direction of the Captain, contributing to the overall mission of the department* Work assigned rotating shifts to maintain operational coverage* Direct and communicate tactical law enforcement plans in response to various incidents, including emergency situations* Maintain a valid driver's licenseRequired Qualifications* High School Diploma or GED* Minimum of 3 years of experience in police work, with supervisory experience a plus; Prior experience as a university police officer or school resource officer is also a plus* Must be Missouri POST certified at time of employment* Must possess a valid driver's license* Knowledge of modern police techniques and practices in law enforcement, investigations, crime and accident prevention* Proven ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with all organizational levels* Demonstrated sound judgment in handling sensitive situations with tact, discretion, and confidentiality* Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills* Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills* Experience using and navigating the Central Square Report System* Familiarity with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, particularly as it relates to patrol functions* Commitment to providing outstanding customer service* Must be able to work a variety of shifts; subject to call-in as neededRequired Background Check: Must successfully pass all Assessments, Pre-Employment Testing, and Post-Offer Testing which at a minimum will include a criminal background check, polygraph exam and drug testing. Must be 21 years of age, a United States citizen, with no felony convictions or misdemeanor domestic violence convictions.
