Job Description:

The University of Maine Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time position in the Communications Division. Work schedules will vary and will include day, evening, midnight, weekend, overtime, and holiday work. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Employee operates a variety of communication systems for an enhanced 911 Operations Center. Information is often confidential, sensitive, and time-sensitive and must be prioritized. Judgment must be used in answering verbal communications regarding rules and regulations; discretion is often used to determine and interpret an appropriate course of action. Starting salary is $20.82 without a Certified Terminal Operator's certification, or $21.39, $22.53 per hour with a Certified Terminal Operator's certification and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

* A Certified Terminal Operator's license and one year of experience in an Emergency Operations Communications Center preferred. Successful candidate must have the ability to obtain the Certified Terminal Operator's certificate at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy within one year of being hired, if not currently certified.

* Successful applicant must have previous demonstrated ability and knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Access, and Excel.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, judgment and initiative, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and superior customer service skills are required.

* The successful candidate must be able to function well under pressure with adverse stimulation and handle potentially life-threatening situations. Individuals must be highly motivated.

* Candidates will be required to complete a series of testing including written and oral examinations, in-depth criminal background, motor vehicle and credit checks; a psychological and polygraph exam; and a pre-employment physical
