E m?lama I ko uka, ko kai, a me ko Kohanaiki no ka pono I k?kou .Position Title:Pondkeeper IReports to:Pondkeeper Manager and/or Assistant ManagerJob Summary:As a member of the pond restoration and maintenance team, a Pond Keeper I will be responsible for the restoration and up-keep of the naturally occurring Anchialine ponds at Kohanaiki. This includes meeting or exceeding the established standards for guest and employee satisfaction. Additional duties include: member's beach daily up-keep, cultural site remediation, and basic beach park care; additional tasks may be assigned based on club needs.Job Responsibilities and Standards:The following description of job responsibilities and standards are intended to reflect the essential functions of the position. This outline does not detail every aspect of the position and there may be other responsibilities and duties as assigned.Job Specifics:
- Provide remediation and maintenance to Anchialine ponds and surrounding habitat.
- Must be able to learn to properly use and maintain all equipment necessary to provide landscape and pond maintenance and installation at a professional level. Examples: string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.
- Perform miscellaneous duties including but not limited to beach cleanup (remove fallen vegetation/rubbish, relocate sand build up, keep public access road clear, maintain road and on occasion drains). Re-naturalization of lava.
- Remove all unwanted alien vegetation, while preserving native plant species.
- Remediate cultural sites and areas surrounding.
- Aid in bird monitoring and protection.
- On occasion, operate heavy machinery to complete tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must demonstrate ability to follow both written and oral instructions given by supervisor.
- Must demonstrate ability to differentiate between native and alien plants and animals in the field.
- Must be able to swim.
- Must demonstrate ability to learn proper safe use of all necessary power and hand tools.
- Use independent decision-making judgment to complete work assignments.
- Must be able to maintain good working relationships with other employees and to work with or without supervision.
- Must have a valid Hawaii driver's license to operate utility carts and trucks.
- Experience trimming and removing vegetation a plus.
- Must be self-motivated.

Dependability:
- Attendance: Adheres to established schedule of work hours. Follows established procedures for early notification to supervisor when unable to report to work. Call a manager 30 minutes before shift starts to avoid an improper call in.
- Punctuality: Arrives to work at scheduled times and works until authorized to leave.
- Attends all mandatory education/in-service programs and demonstrates understanding of responsibilities through appropriate actions.
- Demonstrates effective communication by utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills in all interactions.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule and extra hours when needed.
Safety:
- Demonstrates adherence to the club's safe practice procedures and makes recommendations to improve safety. Reports any unsafe work practice to supervisor.
- Consistently utilizes proper body mechanics in performance of responsibilities, as evidenced by supervisor's observation and no injury to self or others due to improper work habits.
- Follows proper reporting procedures when injured at work. Is aware of the location of material safety data sheets and refers to them when necessary.
Physical and Mental Requirements of the Job:
- Ability to execute a considerable amount of physical labor on uneven ground in moderate to extreme weather conditions (all work performed outdoors) usings tools such as picks, shovels and cane knives.
- Ability to execute considerable amount of standing, lifting, reaching, bending, twisting and kneeling.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 lbs.
- Must be able to communicate with fellow team members and staff about job tasks and responsibilities.
- Must be able to respond to requests of guests and members.
Other Duties:
- Assist with any special project as assigned by management.
