Includes rescuing swimmers in distress, administering first aid, enforcement of City Ordinances and general maintenance of pool, grounds, and restrooms. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service. May include assistance with water exercise, learn to swim, or swim team programs. Performs other related duties as required.POOL LIFEGUARD IIGeneral lifeguarding duties at the Aquatic Center or Houston Sworn Aquatic Center. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service. Enforces all facility rules, teaches swimming lessons, leads water aerobics and other aquatic classes, general pool and facility maintenance and cleaning; including daily chemistry testing and apply chemicals to maintain water quality standards. Conducts facility & equipment safety checks for daily operations and either corrects on the spot or reports to Supervisor for remediation. May include coaching recreational programs. Answers phone and assists patrons with general inquiries. Assists full-time staff during in-service training for part time staff. Performs other related duties as required.POOL LIFEGUARD IIIGeneral lifeguarding duties at the Aquatic Center or Houston Sworn Aquatic Center. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service. Directly involved with competitive aquatic programs at facility including setting up, operations, and oversight. May supervise part-time staff in the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor. Enforces City Ordinances, teaches swimming lessons, leads water aerobics and aqua therapy classes, general pool and facility maintenance and cleaning, troubleshoots and makes minor repairs to filtration and pool chemistry systems; including daily chemistry testing and apply chemicals to maintain water quality standards. Conducts facility & equipment safety checks for daily operations and either corrects on the spot or reports to Supervisor for remediation. May include coaching recreational programs. Collects pool fees using RecTrac software and completes all revenue forms and reports for daily register closing. Answers phone and assists patrons with general inquiries. Under the direction of Supervisor, conducts in-service training for part-time staff. Performs other related duties as required. Typical Qualifications POOL LIFEGUARD I
  • 16 years of age or older,
  • Nationally Recognized Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross, YMCA),
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association Health Care Provider,
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) is desired,
  • Oxygen Administration is desired,
  • Must pass required swim test and drug screening; Swim test will be scheduled at a later date.
  • Knowledge of water safety rules and regulations. Ability to establish rapport with the general public, fellow workers and supervisors,
  • Sedentary work to extreme labor-intensive work based on rescue situations. Physical abilities include swimming, running, walking, pulling, pushing, climbing, carrying, lifting, hearing, talking and seeing. Outside work under all weather conditions.
POOL LIFEGUARD II
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or must obtain within one year of hire,
  • Nationally Recognized Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross, YMCA),
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association Health Care Provider,
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Elementary Swim Instructor (ESI) or equivalent Swim America or YMCA course required.
  • Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) is desired,
  • Oxygen Administration is desired,
  • Must pass required swim test and drug screening; Swim test will be scheduled at a later date.
  • Knowledge of water safety rules and regulations. Ability to establish rapport with the general public, fellow workers and supervisors,
  • Sedentary work to extreme labor-intensive work based on rescue situations. Physical abilities include swimming, running, walking, pulling, pushing, climbing, carrying, lifting, hearing, talking and seeing. Outside work under all weather conditions.
  • Available to work minimum of 15 hours per pay week.
POOL LIFEGUARD III
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • Nationally recognized lifeguard certification (American Red Cross, YMCA) with CPR for the Professional Rescuer & Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • First Aid and Safety from American Red Cross or other acceptable agency required
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent Swim America or YMCA course required
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO)/Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) required
  • Must obtain Bloodborne Pathogens and Oxygen Administration within 6 months of hire.
  • Must pass required swim test physical and drug screening at time of hire
  • Knowledge of competitive aquatic programming, water safety rules and regulations. Ability to establish rapport with the general public, fellow workers and supervisors.
  • Sedentary work to extreme labor-intensive work based on rescue situations. Physical abilities include running, walking, pulling, pushing, climbing, carrying and lifting. Specific abilities include hearing, talking and seeing. Outside work under all weather conditions.
  • Must be available to work minimum of 20 hours per week.
