POSITION SUMMARY: The Supervisor of Aquatics will be responsible for the smooth and effective delivery of designated programs, which include: Progressive Swim Classes, Water Aerobics Classes and Lifeguarding. Responsibilities include scheduling and supervising employees (lifeguards, Water fitness instructors and Swim lesson Instructors) and pool maintenance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to read, write, and understand instructions,
- Demonstrate public speaking ability and customer service orientation towards individuals and groups of people
- Ensure (and at times) provide appropriate pool coverage.
- Record keeping for supervised staff and programs.
- Assist Director in developing brochure and other promotional materials
- Address any and all concerns regarding aquatic programming (content, safety, instruction, etc.)
- Ensure direct reports report to work in proper uniform with fanny packs.
- Supervise lifeguards, water fitness instructors and swim lesson instructors ensure appropriate coverage. This may include guarding and/ or instructing when a substitution is not available,
- Keep timely and accurate records of participants, including pulling rosters from Daxko
- Attend required training sessions - Bloodborne pathogens and CPR/AED Pro on a yearly basis and ensure that staff attend necessary training,
- Order and keep all necessary supplies (on hand and accessible to aquatic staff).
- The following are essential supervisory functions:
- Supervise employees in assigned accountabilities, monitor site operation and scheduling and verify time sheets and actual hours worked.
- Identify training needs and initiate development activities of supervisees. Recommend effective personnel management actions (i.e. employee counseling process).
- Assure that new employees complete orientation and training according to established guidelines and provide on the job training as required by supervisees.
- Ensure duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of all direct reports are defined and understood. Ensure that the individual understands the standards for acceptable performance.
- Keeps employees informed as to association and branch events, plans and progress on organizational goals.
- Be visibly involved w/ members, volunteers and staff in a positive, friendly
- Follow all established policies and procedures, including but not limited to, safety practices and personnel policies.
- Participate in and support association events and fund raising activities.
- Secure required trainings and/or certifications necessary for the position.
- Conduct monthly in-service trainings for staff
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience:
- Minimum of one year experience in instruction
Certification(s) and Requirements:
- CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
- Current CPR/AED Pro, O2 Management, Current 1st Aid
- Current YMCA lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Instructor Certification a plus.
- Current Y Swimming Lessons(YSL) Certification or WSI Certification
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Must be knowledgeable in use of teaching aids: kickboards, pull buoys, diving rings, etc,
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and use of Bloodborne Pathogens personal protective equipment,
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
- Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions
- Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process: completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).
