Job Description:

As the Portfolio Analytics Lead, you will lead a high-impact team focused on advancing the Hiscox US business through data and analytical insight. This is a fast-paced, highly influential role on the US underwriting team, responsible for the development, advancement, and maintenance of foundational business intelligence, alongside maturing our predictive and descriptive capabilities.

In this role, you will take on a high-impact role acting as a critical thinker for Hiscox. You will enjoy applying your core technical skills and innovative thinking to solve complex business problems and identify business opportunities. You will be able to operate in a wide variety of business functions and handle multiple competing priorities; be expected to help the business with evidence-based decisions and, through your team, provide ad hoc analysis as well as predictive and prescriptive models to build Hiscox's data culture. You must be able to successfully operate in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, communicating business value derived from analytical solutions to key stakeholders.

This is an ideal role for an individual who is passionate about the use of data and analytics to influence decisions and is focused on continuous improvement of both process and outcomes. You will be expected to conceptualize new ways of doing things, communicate vision simply and effectively to key stakeholders, and see these visions through to implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of Analysts/Sr. Analysts focused on delivering data insight and new tools/capabilities to the product and underwriting organization.
  • Work closely with senior leaders in understanding business strategy and assist in guiding and supporting strategic direction by providing compelling recommendations derived from advanced analytics and data science.
  • Effectively partner with the data team to build and improve current reporting assets, transitioning into PowerBI.
  • Creation and advancement of Hiscox underwriting models, including leveraging 3rd party data to assess risk quality and pricing adequacy for potential underwriting intervention.
  • Work collaboratively within the Hiscox network of technical teams to help support maturation of analytics practice within the organization.
  • Experience:

  • Degree in a STEM or closely related field.
  • 6-10 years of experience in insurance analytics. Small Commercial experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge using complex datasets to develop analytical procedures (model design, development, and implementation).
  • Experience in coaching to upskill others.
  • A track record of strong leadership, communication, influence, and teambuilding.
  • Technical Skills:

  • Depth of experience with PowerBI. Background in data visualization/presentation preferred.
  • Foundation in building and delivering robust business intelligence tools to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong experience with analytical tools/programming languages and databases (for example: R, Python, and SQL), capable of bringing models to a production state consumable by less technical users.
  • This position is hybrid and requires 2 days in office per week. Position can be based in the following locations:

    • West Hartford, CT (salary range $150k-$200k)
    • Manhattan, NY (salary range $150k-$200k)
    • Atlanta, GA (salary range $140k-$178k)
