7 hr/day; 35 hr/week

NATURE OF POSITION: The Positive Behavior Support Specialist will help students with behavior, learning and/or physical challenges take responsibility for their actions, motivating and preparing them to return to the classroom setting where they will engage appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Minimum of an Associate's Degree; Bachelor's Degree with education background preferred

* Ability to obtain sub permit through Michigan Department of Education

* Experience working with elementary school aged students in a school or similar setting

* Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others and facilitate groups to reach consensus

* Strong ability to redirect, motivate and engage students that exhibit angry, aggressive, withdrawn or other correctable behaviors while at school

* Proficient use of technology, specifically but not limited, to behavior assistance

* Excellent communication (verbal, written and listening) and interpersonal relations skills with a broad range of audiences

* Excellent time management and organizational skills

* Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills

* Maintain regular and punctual attendance

* Experience/training in behavior management, preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Create positive behavior strategies for students while promoting positive reinforcement

* Assist students with academic assignments 1-1 or in small groups, as needed

* Assist students with how to manage their own behaviors while teaching them new and useful skills and replacement behaviors in order to increase their independence

* Model research-based classroom management techniques

* Redirect students so they can return to class where they are expected to engage appropriately

* Monitor students before, during and/or after school including but not limited to hallways, cafeteria and bus transitions

* Maintain ethnic and cultural sensitivity and implement trauma-informed practices consistent with the development stages of all students

* Use technology to collect and monitor effectiveness of data such as interventions, attendance, positive behavior plans, contracts, incident reports, etc.

* Model appropriate intervention techniques in conflict situations

* Collaborate and communicate proactively with all staff and students and contribute to a positive school climate

* Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
