CIVS also serves as a showcase for the NWI region, highlighting the region's commitment to innovation, cutting-edge technologies, collaboration, high-quality work, and real-world problem solving.This position will conduct numerical simulation studies, work on research projects with external partners, mentor and guide graduate student effort on active research projects and publish and present research results. Research work will focus on Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models involving multiphase reacting flow simulations with emphasis on application to industrial processes. The candidate will conduct CFD simulation for addressing complex single and multiphase reacting flows in complex geometries. Research and development activities will include:(1) Conducting high fidelity CFD simulations of combustion, heat transfer, chemical reactions, and phase change phenomena in industrial processes using commercial software.(2) Optimizing existing in-house CFD software packages.(3) Designing and developing CFD sub-models for application to a broad range of CFD problems.(4) Using high-performance computing (HPC) to accelerate complex, large-scale simulations.(5) Interacting with other team members on industry-sponsored projects involving combustion, turbulence, multiphase flow, machine learning and artificial intelligence, algorithm development and implementation, virtual reality visualization, and more.Core CompetenciesApplicants must demonstrate strong writing and communication skills, the ability to function in a team environment with other researchers, and past experience at publishing in technical journals.EducationPh.D. in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Engineering or related field.ExperienceApplicants should have extensive experience in applied CFD simulations, specifically in modeling combustion and multiphase reacting flows. Experience with physical processes in combustion, high temperature gas flow, and turbulent flows is required. Experience with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM, and/or FORTRAN and Python programing languages are preferred. Experience in using High Performance Computing (HPC), especially involving use of a Linux environment, is preferred. FORTRAN and Python programing languages are preferred.
