In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.What you will be doingJOB DESCRIPTIONDepartment/Service: Research InstituteJob Start Date: 11/2024Summary: A Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Rheumatology Division is available in the laboratory of Dr. Timothy Niewold at the Hospital for Special Surgery affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. The main focus of the lab is to understand the immunological and genetic pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. This position will involve state-of-the-art molecular and genomic approaches and patient-derived samples to query autoimmune disease pathogenesis.Responsibilities:The fellow will be responsible for working in conjunction with Dr. Niewold to develop and carry out a project related to autoimmunity research that should result in peer-reviewed publication. He/she will independently design and perform experiments that will utilize molecular, cellular and genetic techniques to answer questions about the role of cytokines and genetic factors in the immunology of autoimmune disease.The postdoc fellow will also have responsibilities for training new or current lab members and colleagues and for working with other lab members to maintain lab function. They will present at lab meetings and represent the lab at other local, national, and international forums, draft manuscripts for publications, and contribute to obtaining data for grant applications.The fellow will be supervised by the laboratory PI Dr. Niewold. The PI will have a weekly formal meeting with the fellow to discuss the experiments, data, and plans in addition to supervision and mentoring during lab meetings that are weekly and informal meetings to quickly discuss data or problems.Minimum Job Requirements:Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree, a background in genetic and genomic methods, cellular and molecular immunology, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently. This position provides opportunities for individuals interested in developing strong translational research experience. High level of motivation and independence and the ability to think critically are expected. PhD candidates expected to graduate soon are also encouraged to apply.Skills: Proficient use of computers and softwareKnowledge of Neurological/Orthopaedic/Rheumatologic terminology is a plus.Ideal candidates must have good written/oral communication skills in English.
