The Laboratory for Biomolecular Simulation Research ( and Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine ( at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking an application scientist to perform advanced free energy simulations of nucleic acid systems, including but not limited to nucleic acid enzymes and riboswitches. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented scientist to gain valuable experience in using advanced computational methods to tackle high impact problems in enzyme design and drug discovery ( The successful candidate will develop and apply innovative methods and workflows for free energy simulations that leverage new AI-enhanced quantum mechanical force fields to enhanced predictive accuracy. These methods will be integrated into the next-generation Amber software suite used worldwide. In this way, this position provides opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge technology development, including the design of new deep-learning potentials and neural networks that enable fast prediction of nucleic acid targeting small molecules.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants must hold a PhD in physical chemistry.
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in nucleic acid simulations, including modeling of divalent metal ion-nucleic acid interactions and catalysis using combined quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical and free energy path (e.g., finite temperature string) methods. Familiarity with AMBER is strongly encouraged. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required, as well as the ability to work independently and prepare scientific manuscripts and/or proposals.
Equipment Utilized
Software development will involve computer resources at Rutgers and include access to in-house and national production cyberinfrastructure resources.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Predominantly operates in an office environment using computer workstation and/or laptop computer, participates in both physical and virtual team meetings, and periodically attends workshops and/or conferences that entail domestic or international travel. Remote work, with regularly scheduled in-person reporting to the PI, is possible through mutual agreement.
Overview
Applicant is expected to perform advanced applications to nucleic acid systems, including free energy simulations using quantum/deep-learning potentials. Duties will involve software development and application, testing and documentation, maintaining currency in the relevant literature and state-of-the-art technology, and actively engage in a team environment.
