Job Description
The Lee lab at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC located in Roanoke, VA is recruiting Postdoctoral Associate. The research aim of our lab is to develop novel biomaterials that aid in modulating innate and adaptive immune responses for cancer immunotherapy. Our lab's research interest focuses on drug/gene delivery, development of innate/adaptive immune agonists and immune cell engineering via chemical modification.
The primary role of this position is to develop novel biomaterials to re-educate tumor-homing myeloid cells and to understand how biomaterials activate innate immune responses. This project will focus on developing biomaterial-based innate immune agonists to re-educate tumor-homing macrophages or dendritic cells and revealing the therapeutic mechanisms in the setting of biomaterial treatments using several transgenic mouse strains.
Required Qualifications
* PhD in chemistry, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or an appropriate related field. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
* Extensive knowledge of biomaterial engineering with a particular focus on organic synthesis.
* Experience with cell/tissue culture, and several in vitro assays.
* Experience with animal work such as mouse handling, tumor implantation, and tail-vein injection.
* Ability to generate high quality results and interpret data.
* Ability to work independently as well as with a research group.
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills required to present project work to management and project team colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with flow cytometry.
* Experience with establishing a glioblastoma mouse model.
* Experience with mentoring medical students, graduate students, or student interns.
