Purpose of the Position:Professor Florinski will supervise the work of the Postdoctoral Research Assistant III and make overall assignment of research topics and methodology. Both Florinski and CSPAR Director, Gary Zank will have the authority to review and evaluate the work of the incumbent and make decisions and changes with respect to the position. The incumbent is responsible for selecting the specific tools, techniques, and computer codes used in his/her research, in consultation with Florinski.Duties/Responsibilities* Conduct scientific research in the framework of SHIELD DRIVE Science Center (DSC) aimed at understanding the interaction between the heliosphere and the surrounding local interstellar medium (LISM).* Develop and support computer models to simulate the various aspects of the heliosphere-LISM interaction, including the flows of ionized and neutral gases, the transport of energetic charged particles, such as cosmic rays, and the evolution and transport of turbulent fluctuations.* Investigate these processes in the context of Voyager, IBEX, and New Horizons spacecraft observations.Minimum Requirements:* Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, Space Science, Plasma Physics or a related field with 2 - 2.5 years of full-time verifiable work experience (Bachelor's or Master's degree required).* Intermediate level knowledge of plasma physics.* Knowledge of computational methods for physical sciences.Desired Qualifications:* Expert level knowledge of plasma physics,* Knowledge of computational methods for fluid dynamics, plasma kinetics, stochastic processes, or similar subjects.* Expertise in the C/C++ programming languages and the Linux OS.Published Salary (if available):$52,216 - $55,000Advertised: Sep 30 2024 Central Daylight TimeApplications close:
