Postdoctoral Researcher in Astrophysics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The Department of Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in theoretical Astrophysics, successful candidates will be supervised by Dr. Victor H. Robles and will have the opportunity to work with his research group and collaborate with other faculty in the department, as well as with their network of collaborators, including various members from the FIRE collaboration and researchers at the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) in the Flatiron Institute.

The open position is targeted at a junior scientist level. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable: performing cosmological dark matter and hydrodynamic simulations, connecting synthetic data to observations, coding in any moder language (Python, C, C++, etc.). Applicants will perform and analyze hydrodynamics simulations to study the complex interplay between the baryonic processes and new dark matter physics beyond CDM at galactic and cosmological scales aiming to obtain new constraints to the dark matter nature. Candidates with previous experience in constraining the dark matter nature are particularly encouraged to apply.

The nominal start date is September 2025, but a later start date can be negotiated.

The appointment is for 2 years, with a possible extension of a third year subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Starting Salary/Rate Expected hiring range: $58,000 - $60,000

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.

Requirements:

PhD by the starting date of the position in astrophysics, physics or a related field, and the PhD degree should not be older than 5 years.

Experience in astrophysical research, cosmological simulations, teaching/supervising students.

Strong skills in C,C++, Python are considered assets.
