Apply today!Job Description The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for developing state-of-the-art electric machinery, power electronic conversion equipment and advanced control systems in support of submarine nuclear propulsion systems for the U.S. Navy. This position will focus on the development and implementation of control system technologies for a wide range of propulsion plant applications including electric drive propulsion systems and motor driven pump systems. The wide range of projects will provide the successful candidate with challenging technical work assignments and the opportunity to gain new technical skills as part of their career growth. As a senior engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of advanced electric propulsion technology in both a laboratory environment (via rapid prototyping with hardware in the loop) as well as aboard an operating platform. Tasks will also include engagement with defense contractors and suppliers to support transitioning technologies from the laboratory to the fleet. In most cases assignments will include working with a team of engineers and project managers to insert new technology into existing and future platforms; upgrading the capabilities of the U.S. Navy. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.Preferred Skills The successful candidate will work in a team environment to apply their power systems engineering, software and hardware development skills and experience to design, implement, and test power electronic equipment, advanced control systems, and electric machines for naval nuclear propulsion plants.
