Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. We are seeking Power Marketers to join our Power Operations & Marketing team. This team collaborates with our generation and transmission teams to schedule the operations of our hydro resources and power purchase contracts to reliably and cost effectively serve Seattle City Light's electric load while meeting environmental considerations. Their work includes marketing surplus energy, transmission, and capacity into the wholesale energy market to maximize value and minimize rates for our customers-owners.

The Power Marketers will either work on shift as part of the Real-Time (RT) Power Marketing desk or serve as a combination Forward Power Marketer and Day Ahead Cash Trader, depending on current business needs and fit of the successful candidate. The RT Power Marketing desk ensures that the bulk power demand of our customer-owners is met and sells excess generation capacity, energy, and transmission paths on an hourly basis in the bilateral market. The RT desk also bids and submits base schedules into the CAISO Energy imbalance Market. The Forward Power Marketer - Day Ahead Cash Trader role leads in identifying, evaluating, and structuring surplus and deficit energy, transmission, and capacity positions. This position also provides operations expertise to the Power Management Division and evaluates Requests for Proposals ( RFPs ) and Requests for Bids ( RFBs ), providing data-driven recommendations to Power Management leadership.

This position will report to the Real Time Marketing SupervisorHere is more about what you'll be doing:

* Market surplus/deficit energy, transmission, and capacity type products in wholesale energy markets

* Schedule transmission, reserves & energy; maintain accurate log of events & transactions

* Identify, evaluate, and structure the marketing of surplus/deficit energy, transmission (PTP and 3rd AC), Lucky Peak energy, Frequency response, reserves and capacity positions

* Perform load forecasting, outage and unit maintenance coordination, and resource optimization duties

* Evaluate Request for Proposals ( RFPs ) and Request for Bids ( RFBs ), providing data-driven recommendations to Power Management leadership

* Submit bid offers and base schedules into the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) real-time and day ahead markets

* Analyze bidding strategies in the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM), evaluate their effectiveness, identify opportunities to increase value and communicate these strategies with the trading team

* Manage and optimize Seattle City Light hydro and long-term contractual resources.

* Review, analyze, and report results of market operations.

* Monitor fish licensing requirements during shifts

* Create and process E-Tags

* Assist System Operation Center in ensuring that NERC and WECC reliability standards are met

* Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays

* Perform other power marketing functions, as necessary

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

Requires a minimum of three years of experience in wholesale energy marketing or operations, resource planning and/or risk management and a bachelor's degree in business administration, mathematics, finance, economics, engineering, or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

* Deep understanding of energy market dynamics

* Knowledge in CAISO Capacity Market and Resource Adequacy Policies

* Familiarity with the Western Systems Power Pool Agreement, Bonneville Power Administration Transmission business practices, Mid-Columbia hydro operations, and NERC, WECC and CAISO reliability standards

* Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

* Strong written and verbal communication skills

* 1-3 years of experience working in wholesale energy markets as a Power Marketer

* 1+ years of experience working with CAISO and/or Energy Imbalance Market preferred

* Experience in hydro resource operations, wholesale power marketing, or resource planning & forecasting

* Experience scheduling cascading hydro projects while meeting elevation, discharge, and other operational constraints

* Self-starter with the ability to work effectively without constant supervision in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

* Proven aptitude for decision-making and strong time management skills
