Our client is one of the world's leading law firms. They have an amazing opportunity for an attorney professional development or practice management professional to join their firm as a Practice Manager.
Location: New York, NY or Boston, MA
Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Salary: $150,000-$175,000
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Work with Attorney Development to design, update, and implement formal litigation training programs, including recruiting qualified instructors.
- Collaborate with Attorney Development to track attorney performance, address development gaps, and escalate concerns to Section management as needed.
- Analyze and oversee metrics to monitor and improve the distribution of work.
- Propose enhancements to existing workflows and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with attorneys to improve utilization and support professional growth.
- Assess hiring needs, provide recommendations to Section leadership, and participate in interviewing candidates for associate roles, as requested.
- Work with Attorney Development to support orientation and integration of new Associates.
- Manage associate on/off-ramping for leaves of absence and adjust staffing accordingly.
- Engage in the Associate Evaluation Process by reviewing feedback, drafting summaries, and participating in mid-year check-ins and year-end evaluation discussions.
- Assist with pairing Associates in mentorship, advisor, and sponsor programs.
- Identify and coordinate external professional development opportunities (e.g., conferences, Bar programs) for the Section.
- Advise Associates on their Professional Development Plans.
- Generate reports and analyze trends to provide insights into Section and Firm leadership regarding talent management, financial performance, and knowledge management.
- Manage assignment allocation for Associates and off-track attorneys.
- Oversee Section budgets by reviewing, approving, and tracking expenditures.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating Section and member meetings, including developing agendas and creating content.
- Assist in the management of departing attorney processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; J.D. preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a large law firm, with a focus on practice management, professional development, or human resources.
- Strong analytical, project management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to earn the respect, trust, and confidence of attorneys and professional staff.
- Competence in analyzing and presenting data effectively.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively, promoting strong working relationships.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Commitment to integrity, excellent judgment, and the highest ethical standards.
- Understanding of law firm economics.
