Cary's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources department is seeking a creative, organized, and community-oriented Program Assistant II to support Bond Park's Community Center programming team!
This position will be responsible for assisting in program implementation and project development, as well as routine clerical and administrative duties. This role will also provide day-to-day community center support and customer service to community center visitors.
Work will require a flexible schedule which will primarily include afternoons/evenings with weekend and daytime availability as needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
* Performs responsible administrative work, such as participant registration or daily enrollment checks
* Handles marketing tasks such as creating brochures, posters, flyers, etc.
* Manages program cancellations and refunds
* Creates vendor contracts and pays vendor invoices
* Performs data entry and other general office duties
* Assists PRCR staff in program implementation, project development and other special projects
* Engages in contact with the public
* Performs other job-related tasks as required
* General knowledge of computers and relevant software
* General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
* Ability to remain organized, multitask, and work independently
* Ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline
* Ability to communicate with the public and coworkers tactfully and constructively
* Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions
* Ability to supervise staff, instructors, and volunteers.
* Ability to acquire knowledge of Cary policies, procedures, and the services of the department
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree.
Requires at least 1 year of experience in a role performing office, clerical, or administrative work.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:
* Some experience working with vendors/contracts
* Some marketing experience
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires an employee to be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with the public. An employee must be able to walk unassisted and move about freely. Requires the ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 25 lbs.) such as chairs, 6-foot tables, rolling bleachers, and event supplies. Visual acuity is needed in order to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and a background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
