Job DetailsJob LocationCaldwell Medical Center - PRINCETON, KYPosition TypeFull TimeEducation Level2 Year DegreeJob ShiftDayPre-Anesthesia Testing Nurse-Full-TimePOSITION SUMMARY: Pre-Anesthesia Testing Nurse:The Pre-Anesthesia Testing Nurse (PAT)reviews and assesses all patients scheduled for surgery. Verifying all required documents have been received and test results have been approved. The PAT Nurse must be able to communicate effectively and have the ability to work compatibly with all physicians and staff. The PAT Nurse will manage surgical documents, gather and input patient information. They ensure that all pre-surgery paperwork is completed in time for the patient's appointment. The PAT Nurse will provide patient education on how to prepare and what to expect on day of surgery.Surgery Scheduling: schedules all surgical procedures and assures that all of the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule. Scheduler receives requests to schedule procedures from physician offices and schedules the procedure according to established guidelines. Scheduler provides accurate information to the surgery department, and maintains open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Pre-Anesthesia NurseOnce a surgery has received prior authorization, obtain chart from outpatient clinicCheck for completed H&P, surgeon's orders.Complete Anesthesia Assessment form - consult anesthesiologist with any questions or concerns re: health history of patient.Verify that pre-op tests were obtained. Complete any lab requisitions for tests that are needed. Contact the patient with instructions on obtaining any needed labs, appointments, etc. Assist patient making appointment and verify cardiac clearance has been obtainedStart Nurse Pre-Op Assessment Note.Obtain Medication ListObtain surgical and health historyInquire as to any known allergies or sensitivities Instruct patient using pre-op instruction sheet as guide.Inform patient that he/she will be called the afternoon before surgery with pre-op reminders and arrival time for surgery.Verify that registration has needed documents to pre-register patients in a timely manner. Obtain Follow-up AppointmentsSurgery SchedulingCoordinates and schedules surgeries, follow-up appointments as designated by physicians. Interacts with patients, physicians, and other staff both within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information. Coordinates, processes, and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements. Ensures efficient telephone communication. Documents work processes as required. Follows all written protocols and procedures Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families. Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/ emergent situations per protocols. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management. Schedules surgeries based on physician volume maintaining appropriate standard turnaround times. Remains knowledgeable of physicians' schedules at all times to ensure surgeries and procedures are scheduled in conjunction with their schedules. Identifies scheduling barriers and implements solutions to improve scheduling results based on predetermined goals. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM EDUCATIONRegistered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse who is a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice within the state of Kentucky. PREFFERED EDUCATIONAs read above. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE1-2 years' experience in nursing. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE3-5 years' experience in nursing.
