Job Description:

At Resource Label Group, we are a full-service manufacturer of custom label design and printing for a wide range of industries. With full-scale capabilities coast-to-coast and over 30 locations across North America, we are dedicated to delivering cutting-edge label printing with a national reach and local touch.

We are currently recruiting an experienced Pre Press Manager to join our Buffalo, NY facility known as Gintzler International! This hands-on role demands a mix of advanced technical skills, leadership qualities, and a comprehensive understanding of the printing process.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, plan, organize, and control prepress components for production.
  • Maintain and enhance department metrics. Use these metrics to improve department standards of work.
  • Monitors and schedules workflow to ensure committed timelines are maintained and standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Communicate prepress schedule to customer service, sales, and production and advise on potential issues that could result in rescheduling.
  • Collaborate with prepress operators, customer service, sales, and production on various artwork issues and collectively establish realistic and practical resolutions for executing jobs accurately and on time.
  • Supervise pre-press operators' work process to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and if necessary, coach and direct employees to avoid non-conformances.
  • Communicate with the operations team and address production concerns to ensure the production of quality products and to resolve technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Customer Service, and Scheduling on prioritizing jobs, when required.
  • Interact with external customers when required to clarify artwork and to accommodate special requirements and/or adjustments or additions.
  • Keeps abreast of technology and makes recommendations for equipment and software changes or upgrades.
  • Establishes and maintains procedures for archiving all files in the prepress department.
  • Establishes and maintains procedures for machine preventive maintenance.
  • Manages the plate department and reviews and implements procedures for jobs to flow through the department more efficiently.
  • Maintain inventory of all items in the pre-press and plate room. Prepare purchase requisition when required to ensure minimum inventory levels are attained and kept as low as possible, which should be based on usage history and delivery times.
  • Provide guidance to the plate room department on workflow process, standard operating procedures, quality, and work organization.
  • Comply with and perform duties relevant to Quality, Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices and Environmental Guidelines.
  • Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring you are always wearing the protective equipment required and working safely.
  • Works proficiently in the required software programs - including, but not limited to: Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Quark, Esko Software and Illustrator plugins, etc. Stays up-to-date on most recent software programs available. Coordinates with IT for updates and trains department personnel as needed.

Quality Requirements

  • Investigate, identify, and address root causes, and corrective and preventive actions in a timely manner for all non-conformances and customer complaints. Provide information to the quality department in writing within required timelines (see procedures). Give the required information to the quality department regarding non-conformances for immediate and future follow-up.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs by providing suggestions and soliciting input from employees.
  • Work with employees to ensure quality standards are adhered to and take corrective action when non-conformances are identified.
  • Responsible and accountable for the day-to-day activities in the Prepress Departments relative to the quality of work produced. Understand, advocate, and promote continuous improvement throughout all areas of your responsibility.
  • Ensure successful and smooth implementation of new technologies and new procedures ensuring the completion of required documentation and compliance as required.
  • Keep the quality department up to date regarding new initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Initiate the revision of existing operating procedures when necessary and coordinate with the Quality Assurance department.
  • Participate in quality audits (internal, external, and customer) as required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Enforces all health and safety policies and procedures and study Supervisor's Health and Safety Awareness in 5-Steps.
  • Read and understand the Occupational Health and Safety Act and be familiar with all aspects affecting your function as a supervisor, your employees' functions, and your departments.
  • Understand, continuously promote, and enforce all Health and Safety policies and procedures and legislative requirements throughout the Prepress departments.
  • Ensure that all employees under your supervision are performing H&S duties as required.
  • Responsible and accountable for the day-to-day activities of the Health and Safety program within their departments.
  • Participate in JHSC meetings as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages direct reports in Pre-Press/ Mounting; is responsible for the overall coordination of workflow in the Pre-Press departments, and evaluation of these units.
  • Manages area of responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Electronic Prepress Operations, Graphics Design, or Printing Prepress Technology or a minimum of ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in specific Art software and an in-depth understanding of various printing processes, and strong proficiency in software related to Prepress.
  • Proven ability in managing teams, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Must have an advanced understanding and use Esko software (ver.22+)
  • Must understand and have experience in Flexo & Digital Printing.
  • Must have advanced skills working in a Mac platform using the Adobe Creative Suite (Specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite softwares), ArtPro.
  • Knowledge with EFI Radius ERP would be an asset.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software for some special projects.
  • Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
  • Analytical ability and creative problem solving / troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Experience in a Managerial role is preferred.
  • Experience in Print/Label considered an asset.
