What You'll Do
Reporting to the AEC-Construction Services Department, you will have the following responsibilities:
* Meet and communicate with Construction Services supervisors, facility managers, professors, researchers, and other partners to develop project goals and scope definition.
* Perform site visits to gain first-hand knowledge of project requirements.
* Anticipate level of architect/engineer involvement needed to meet project goals.
* Participate in the project triage process to decide the most appropriate execution strategy for a project
* Lead design-phase efforts performed, by third-party architectural and engineering firms, on projects where CS is providing a turn-key delivery.
* Approve design firm proposals and invoices.
* Provide basic designs of offices, classrooms, labs, and their components.
* Manage several small projects of relatively short duration.
* Monitor design firm performance and ability to meet project goals.
* Review designs with appropriate stakeholders and coordinate with agency reviews to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Help administer RFIs and construction bulletins for design revisions and issues encountered.
* Work with the CS supervisor to help resolve design related issue during the construction phase.
* Work with CS supervisors, Architecture & Engineering and FOIS Space Information departments to archive design, warranty, commissioning, and other project data needed by other U-M stakeholders.

Required Qualifications*
* A bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction related science from an accredited institution.
* Four or more years of progressively responsible experience in the design and construction of institutional or commercial buildings.
* General knowledge of the Michigan Building Code, NFPA 101, NEC, NFPA 72, ASHRAE 90.1, and other related building codes.
* Knowledge of the building systems including complex mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
* Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit platforms.
