Job Summary:Under the overall supervision of the Director of Perioperative Services and direct supervision of the Pre-Post Unit Charge Nurse, and Pre-Post RN, performs clerical duties and assists the RN as requested performing EKGs, wheelchair and stretcher transportation of patients, room readiness, and by maintaining the Preop patient assignment board to reflect current status of the pre and post-operative patient. The Pre-Post unit secretary maintains customer records for assigned nursing unit, prints and assembles forms for patient charts, and enters patient charges. The Pre-Post unit secretary is responsible for ordering unit supplies and makes sure inventory is adequate. The Pre-Post unit clerk performs duties as a team member, communicating with all hospital departments. Assists nurses in carrying out physicians orders. Collaborates with co-workers and maintains a cooperative attitude to help ensure optimum operation of the unit. May be assigned other duties as deemed necessary by the Department Director.Physical Requirements:May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 500 pounds with assistance. Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity are essential to performing the designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity is required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties. Physical conditions are clean, neat, and well-lit. May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations, and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and the needs of the surgical team. Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances, and infectious disease processes is a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical schedule.OSHA Exposure Classification:Job Category I. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:• Demonstrated eligibility for employment in the United States• High School diploma or equivalent.• Ability to relate and work effectively with others.• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own growth and advancement. • Demonstrated verbal communication skills in both English for interacting with patients, callers, and coworkers.• Demonstrated computer skills in utilizing word processing, integrated databases, and other functions.• Ability to use office machines and telephone systems.• Prior experience in a medical setting preferred.• Knowledge of medical terminology is required• Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption
