The Yankee Rebel Tavern, Inc. on Mackinac Island, MI and has opening for 5 full time temporary Prep Cooks, $15.44/hr to $22.50/hr ($23.16/hr to $33.75/hr O.T.) from 4/01/2025 to 11/06/2025. Duties include: preparing all food items prior to cooking, cutting or breaking bulk items into individual portion sizes, cutting vegetables, fruit and meats, and gathering and mixing ingredients. in a commercial kitchen in support of the cooks. Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking or serving and cut, slice or grind meat, poultry, and seafood to prepare for cooking and gather and mix ingredients of various types in support of cooks. Duties are performed by using a combination of common kitchen tools including knives, measuring devices, scales, cutting boards, blenders, mixers and various types of containers and bowls as well as pots, pans, stock pots, skillets, stove, and oven. Prep cooks will also be required to do some cooking and preparation of menu items in support of the head chef.No exp. req. The specific days and hours of work will vary depending on scheduling and the level of business but will generally be 5 days per week with rotating days off. The business is open 7 days a week. Weekend work will be required. Two shifts available: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm or 4:00 pm to 1:00 am. Must be available to work both shifts, approximately 35 hours per week with some overtime during busy months. The worksites are located at 1493 Astor Street and 7300 Main Street, Mackinac Island, MI.This posting is being made in connection with an application for H-2B workers.Workers are paid every two weeks. A single workweek will be used to compute wages due. The employer will make all deductions from the worker's paycheck required by law but will make no other deductions. Raises and bonuses available based on performance or length of service with the employer. One meal per work shift is provided gratis, from the Chef approved employee menu list.Work tools, supplies and equipment will be provided without charge or deposit.If required by prevailing law the employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three-fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. H-2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government (excluding passport fees) incurred by the worker. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, employer will reimburse the worker for transportation and subsistence from the place of recruitment to the place of work. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, employer will provide or pay for worker's reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $15.88 per day during travel to a maximum of $59.00 per day with receipts.The employer does not require workers to use company housing however, on a voluntary basis the employer does make dorm style housing available at a cost to the worker of $90 per week, not a condition of employment. If a worker rents housing from the employer, the employee will be asked to agree to have the rent deducted from their paycheck. The employer does not provide transportation to the worksites during the term of employment although they are within walking distance of the housing.This job order, including its wage and working terms and conditions, is contingent upon prevailing legal interpretations of federal H-2B immigration and FLSA employment law, including
