Job Summary: The Prepress Operator plays a critical role in ensuring that client files are complete, accurate, and ready for production. This includes reviewing and preparing files for printing by checking for any errors, inconsistencies, or missing elements. The operator works closely with Account Managers to understand client specifications and ensure that the final output aligns with the client's needs. Using specialized software tools, the Prepress Operator is responsible for tasks like imposition, file preparation, and ensuring that all files are correctly formatted for efficient and high-quality printing. The Prepress Operator works closely with other departments to maintain a smooth workflow and ensure the timely, high-quality delivery of print projects.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly review job tickets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Check customer-supplied files for potential issues, ensuring they meet production standards.
- Use Kodak Preps imposition software to build new layouts and impose artwork into existing templates.
- Manipulate and adjust layouts for offset printing presses using Kodak Preps.
- Output large-format HP hardcopies for internal quality control checks.
- Output metal plates for offset printing, ensuring the files are correctly prepared and formatted.
- Prepare one-up artwork for client approval and assist with internal workflow requirements.
- Collaborate with Account Managers to ensure jobs meet customer expectations and are completed on schedule.
Requirements
- Technical degree in Graphic Arts, Printing, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the print industry, with a focus on prepress operations.
- Minimum of three years of hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
- Experience with Kodak Preps imposition software for layout and file manipulation.
- Knowledge of working with variable data for print jobs.
- Experience with PC-based systems and familiarity with internal ERP systems.
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong ability to work with prepress workflows for trapping, proofing, and quality control.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to file preparation and production.
- High attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of job tickets, layout manipulation, and output files.
