About the Role and Position

The President & CEO of the DC Chamber of Commerce is responsible for driving the Chamber's strategic direction, promoting business interests in the District, and enhancing the value provided to members. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will serve as the chief advocate and alliance builder for the business community.

This position leads an approximately $2.5 million organization with a dedicated team of 7 employees and 5 consultants, requiring a leader who can execute a comprehensive business strategy, ensure operational efficiency, and represent the Chamber to key stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advocacy & Public Policy: Represent the Chamber and its members before local government bodies.
  • Membership Growth & Engagement: Develop strategies to recruit, engage, and retain members.
  • Board Relations: Act as a trusted partner to the Board of Directors.
  • Community Leadership: Serve as a community leader, fostering relationships with government entities and local businesses.
  • Revenue Generation & Fundraising: Identify and secure new sources of revenue.
  • Staff Leadership: Attract, develop, and retain a high-performing team.
  • Financial & Operational Management: Oversee the Chamber's financial health.
  • Public Representation: Act as the public face of the Chamber.

About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the CEO position will be a proven leader with extensive experience in advocacy, public policy, and organizational management.

  • Leadership Experience: At least 10 years of senior leadership experience.
  • Advocacy & Public Policy: Demonstrated success in advancing an agenda.
  • Revenue Generation: A successful track record in fundraising.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Community Leadership: Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to craft and execute strategic plans.
  • Financial Acumen: Proficiency in managing budgets.
  • Staff Development: A collaborative leader.
  • Visionary Leadership: A forward-thinking leader.

An undergraduate degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
