As the second-ranking officer at SDSU and reporting directly to the president, the provost will play an integral role in the continued elevation of the institution, especially as it builds out new programs and facilities at its newest campus sites and fully realizes its impending R1 status. The provost will provide strategic leadership and vision to the divisions of Admissions & Enrollment Services, Academic Colleges, Analytic Studies and Institutional Research, Curriculum, Assessment and Accreditation, Faculty Advancement and Student Success, College of Graduate Studies, International Affairs, University Library, and Resource Management. The provost should bring a spirit of partnership, collaboration, transparency, and passion to build upon SDSUs achievements in education, research, and service. SDSU seeks a forward-thinking leader with experience developing and promoting programs for the changing landscape of undergraduate and graduate education. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the challenges facing public higher education and ideally have experience working at a complex public higher education institution. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is a record of accomplishment in building trust and lasting relationships, both internal and external to SDSU. This individual will be expected to understand and advance SDSUs mission as a minority-serving institution and have a record of commitment to enhancing student engagement and success. The ideal candidate should also understand and respect the unique shared governance structure of SDSU that includes faculty, staff, and student voices in the decision-making process and should be a collaborative and present leader willing to engage with the community while thoughtfully and purposefully leading the campus. A demonstrated and continuing commitment to diversity, access, equity, and inclusion will be critical to the incoming provost and senior vice presidents success.
