What We Do At Inland:Are you looking for a career that provides growth and development? Inland Packaging is a local label and packaging manufacturer seeking a Press Assistantto join our growing team. Inland family-owned business that print labels for brands like Kraft Heinz, New Glarus Brewing, Sprecher's, Leinenkugel's, and Coors Light. The Press Assistant position is an entry-level position that provides the opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to become an impactful member of the Inland Press department. The Press Assistant must have the desire to advance within the department.Location: 3030 Airport Road La Crosse, WI 54603Starting Wage: $19.40 - $22.82 + $1.00/hour shift differentialShift: Rotating nights: 6:00pm - 6:00amWork Schedule: Rotating 12-Hour Shifts including every other weekend:
  • Week One: Three Days - 36 Hours
  • Week Two: Four Day - 48 Hours
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Cross trains on various Offset printing presses, to understand basic printing principles, key terms, workflow, and practices. Floats between Offset assets for the first 6 weeks of employment.
  • Reads and understands a job ticket to determine the substrate, ink, and other material needed for the production job.
  • Prepares materials for upcoming jobs by viewing the production schedule and verifying the job run sequence with the operator.
  • Prepares and stages ancillary supplies throughout production runs, including prepping role substrate, ensuring proper film substrate storage, and return of all inks, coatings, and substrates associated with the production run.
  • Manages Kanban of Press consumables.
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities on the coating roller cleaner while using the proper personal protective equipment and participates in Press department maintenance events.
  • Assists with chemistry staging, mixing, and replenishing at the press.
  • Actively participates in 5S initiatives; performs housekeeping by replacing press rags and solutions, performs preventative maintenance, cleaning, and other tasks as needed.
  • Assists with press wash-ups, blanket mounting, plate mounting, and other duties to ensure press production is maximized and downtime is minimized.
  • Maintains a safe environment for personnel and machinery, while following all company safety manuals and company safety procedures and initiatives.
  • Assists with assigned changeover tasks to increase press efficiency and decrease changeover times.
  • Successfully learns, completes, and demonstrates performance of the curriculum specified in the Offset Press Assistant role and participates in cross-training activities to further knowledge of press department practices. Training curriculum checked off and certified within 6 months of hire / transfer.
  • Certifies on Second Press Operator functions. Trains with Operator by 6 months in position and completes specific training checklist items within 12 months in position.
  • Act as Second Press Operator during breaks, vacations, leave of absences, etc., as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree
  • 1 year of manufacturing experience or training and/or a combination of relevant education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience performing job functions in an ethical manner, while also operating in a team environment to accomplish results.
  • Must possess a positive attitude, have a desire to learn, willing to adhere to processes, cleanliness, and tidiness requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining efficient time management, reliable attendance, and strong work ethic.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and reading skills.
  • Must possess strong math skills as well as proficient computer skills as all job responsibilities include technology, including PC work.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and solve production related problems.
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with coworkers and Inland leadership team.
  • Must be willing to learn and grow technical skills and abilities within the Press department.

Work Environment:
  • Operates in a demanding, fast-paced, people-oriented manufacturing environment with frequent changes and interruptions, and multiple project assignments. Works with a variety of people including vendors, customers, employees, managers, and executives.
Physical Requirements:Must meet physical demands identified on work screen protocol, including standing for the complete work shift. Must be able to stoop, kneel, and climb a ladder and/or stairs. Vision corrected to 20/40; Must pass Ishihara Color Assessment.
