Job Type Full-time Description Schedule Days: Monday - Thursday, Friday - OT Schedule: 6am - 4:30pm The Press Operator is responsible for setting up and operating various types of presses, including automatic, manual, and single-hit punch presses, to trim, punch, notch, shape, or draw metal parts to specifications. Operators will perform quality checks per our quality standards and support continuous improvement initiatives. Duties and responsibilities may be modified as needed based on business conditions. General Responsibilities (Applicable to All Operators)
- Safety Compliance: Follow all company and equipment operation safety procedures, ensuring a safe working environment. Ensure that all guards and misfeed protection devices are in place. Actively participate in safety programs and report any unsafe conditions or practices to the supervisor immediately.
- Quality Control: Perform quality checks during production using appropriate gauges to inspect critical dimensions of parts. Ensure all products meet customer expectations.
- Documentation and Reporting: Complete production paperwork and enter daily labor records on timecards. Notify supervisors of any equipment, tooling, or quality issues that require attention.
Automatic Press Operator
- Setup and Operation:
- Set up automatic presses from 45-ton to 600-ton capacity based on work orders and setup books.
- Operate the press, including support equipment, and package products according to production capacity requirements.
- Load coils from the decoiler through straightener and start the strip to begin production runs.
- Continuous Improvement: Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities for efficiency and quality enhancements.
Single Hit Press Operator (Total Setup)
- Press Setup:
- Setup dies in the press, adjust the ram to proper shut height, and enter process parameters into equipment controllers.
- Adjust feeders, material guides, and other equipment to ensure proper operation.
- First Piece Approval: Obtain first piece sample approval, ensuring that the die produces parts within tolerance.
- Routine Maintenance: Perform all routine maintenance on the press and troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues as needed.
- Production: Operate the press and coordinate helper(s) activities to ensure proper packaging and inspection procedures.
Single Hit Press Operator (No Setup)
- Operation:
- Operate presses to punch or shape metal parts according to specifications without making adjustments to dies or presses.
- Coordinate helper(s) activities to ensure proper packaging and inspection procedures.
- Work Area Maintenance: Keep equipment, dies, tools, and the work area clean, organized, and free of debris, oil, and water.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands + Work Environment
- The employee must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and work comfortably in a noisy and potentially hazardous industrial environment. Additionally, they should be capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods. During job duties, the employee may also need to sit, stoop, kneel, climb, or balance occasionally. They must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and a risk of electrical shock. There is occasional exposure to high, precarious places, and specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment often features loud noise levels due to moving mechanical parts.
Requirements Experience, Knowledge + Skills
- Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in metal stamping, preferably with progressive dies.
- Experience with die protection and 5S training is a plus.
- Ability to adjust support equipment such as feeders and straighteners.
- Proficient in using metrology tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide basic arithmetic.
- Ability to read and understand safety rules, work instructions, and communicate effectively with team members.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
