Position Summary: The Punch Press Operator - Setup is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining punch press machines to produce high-quality parts and components. This role involves ensuring accurate setup of machines, troubleshooting, and adhering to safety and quality standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Machine Setup and Calibration:
- Set up and adjust punch press machines, including die installation and alignment
- Calibrate machines according to specifications and engineering drawings
- Verify and adjust machine settings such as speed, pressure, and stroke length
- Production:
- Operate punch press machines to produce parts and components according to production schedules and specifications
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as necessary to maintain quality
- Inspect parts for defects or deviations from specifications using measuring tools
- Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on punch press machines
- Keep machines and work areas clean and organized
- Report major mechanical issues or malfunctions to maintenance personnel
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that all parts produced meet quality standards and specifications
- Conduct regular quality checks and document results
- Adjust machine settings based on inspection results to ensure accuracy
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures while operating machinery
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Comply with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of machine setups, production runs, and maintenance activities
- Report any issues or discrepancies to the Production Supervisor
- Document any changes or adjustments made during the production process
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other operators, technicians, and supervisors to ensure smooth production flow
- Provide training and guidance to less experienced operators as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven previous experience as a punch press operator, including setup and maintenance
- Strong understanding of machine operation, setup procedures, and safety protocols
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Proficiency in using measuring tools and equipment
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision
- Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing is preferred
- Experience with different types of punch press machines (e.g., hydraulic, mechanical) is preferred
- Familiarity with computer-controlled or CNC punch presses is preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing floor with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
- Compliance with safety regulations and use of personal protective equipment
