  • Inspect commercial and industrial facilities for compliance with various ordinances and requirements; prepare reports on inspection findings.
  • Issue enforcement actions and citations for instances of environmental non-compliance, as required.
  • Assist with executing special projects to support investigations, local limit development, and plant operations, as assigned.
  • Perform water and wastewater sample collection and analysis through required scheduled and unscheduled monitoring events in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and with regulatory requirements.
  • Review and enter data into compliance tracking software from monitoring events; report possible violations or unusual test results for additional review.
  • Receive and review reports from commercial and industrial wastewater users.
  • Maintain investigation/inspection history in appropriate electronic platforms; maintain all other hardcopy and softcopy documents in appropriate repositories.
  • Maintain and operate monitoring equipment; notify leadership if issues arise with equipment accuracy.
  • Assist in presenting public information and outreach including, but not limited to, industrial and commercial wastewater pretreatment and disposal, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct investigations in response to complaints; meet with appropriate internal stakeholders to determine the best course of action regarding the investigation and response to complainant, if needed.
  • Draft and review Industrial and Commercial Wastewater Discharge Permits.
  • Complete industrial stormwater inspections and report findings to stakeholders for correction, if needed.
  • Follow and occasionally submit recommendations for changes to SOPs.
  • Monitor inventory and make purchasing recommendations when necessary.
  • Periodically reviews internal files for accuracy.
  • Prepare reports, as required.

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and,
  • Three (3) years' experience in wastewater treatment, environmental regulation, or related field,

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class C driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification
  • Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business).
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to distinguish between colors.
  • Must have or obtain a Class D Wastewater Treatment Operators License or Wastewater Collections I License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within twelve (12) months of employment.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements SAFETY
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals. Wastewater monitoring equipment, including, but not limited to, automatic samplers, pH meters, dipsticks, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Environment: Works in an office, laboratory, and field setting with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, dust, chemicals, odors, potentially hazardous conditions, around confined spaces, steep slopes, uneven ground, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings, various users within the City's sewer service area, and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
