Brigham and Women's Primary Care is seeking a Medical Director, trained in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine (Board Certified/Board Eligible) to oversee patient care, clinical staff, and operational aspects of our Brigham Physician Group, BPG – Chestnut Hill adult primary care practice. As part of the Brigham and Women's Primary Care Center of Excellence, you'll collaborate with a team of esteemed clinicians and world-class specialists from Brigham and Women's Hospital. We are dedicated to leveraging an innovative clinical model and optimizing its implementation. Located at Brigham and Women's Health Care Center in Chestnut Hill, the internal medicine physician group provides health screening, comprehensive diagnostic work-ups, treatment, and long-term care. Outpatient laboratory, radiology, and specialty services are available on site.

The Medical Director will have a meaningful understanding of, commitment to, and provide leadership around patient centeredness, team-based care, and health equity. Reporting to the Regional Medical Director, the Primary Care Practice Medical Director is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of patient care within the practice. Co-leading the practice with a practice manager and nurse manager, they oversee the clinical work of all the clinicians within the practice, working in partnership with the Department of Medicine residency leadership to ensure the fulfillment of the objectives of the educational program. They also work with the Practice Manager to ensure appropriate staffing to support the clinical needs of the patients. In collaboration with Regional Leadership and Practice Leadership, the Medical Director is responsible for meeting quality, cost, efficiency, outcome, and patient engagement metrics as well as upholding the Primary Care Policies. They will participate in Primary Care leadership meetings and committees as requested.

Responsibilities of the Primary Care Practice Medical Director include:

  • Hiring and managing clinicians.
  • Ensuring quality metrics are met.
  • Fostering a patient-centered, team-based care environment.
  • Collaborating with the Department of Medicine residency leadership.
  • Participating in leadership meetings.
  • Supervising staff involved in medical education and clinic operations.
  • Conducting performance evaluations and process improvement.
  • Mentoring staff and participating in primary care committees.
  • Collaborating with the Practice Manager and Nurse Manager in hiring and evaluating non-provider staff.

  • Qualifications for the Medical Director role:

  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine Physician.
  • Full license to practice medicine in Massachusetts including MCSR and DEA.
  • Excellent communication skills and time management.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a team, guiding them towards common goals.
  • Clear, effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Dedication to maintaining high standards of care and continuous improvement in patient outcomes.

    Appointment at the Harvard Medical School:

    Depending upon the position, there may be opportunities to teach residents and medical students. All Harvard Medical School Faculty appointments require at least 50 hours of teaching per academic year. Harvard Medical School faculty appointment is not a requirement of this position.
