Principal Completion Engineer (GG&E) Location: Houston, Texas Position Status: FT FLSA Status: Exempt Company Profile: CNPC USA is a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Company and serves as the North American headquarters. Our goal is to provide innovation, research and development of new technologies for Oil and Gas Exploration and Production. Job Summary: CNPC USA is seeking a Principal Completion Engineer to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves leading the design and implementation of completion strategies for unconventional plays, ensuring optimal production and environmental safety. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic perspective to completion operations, utilizing their extensive experience to enhance our operational capabilities. This position reports directly to the Vice President of CNPC USA Corp. until a team lead or manager is assigned. Responsibilities:
  • Develop FRAC stimulation designs and completion strategies for CNPC assets, integrating multidisciplinary subsurface data, reservoir and FRAC modeling, alongside optimized wellbore architecture.
    • A critical aspect of this role involves enhancing completion designs to boost key productivity factors.
  • Keep updated on emerging technologies in operations, modeling, and hydraulic fracturing diagnostics to continually refine practices and approaches.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including drilling and production engineers, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and oversee technical teams in completion-related projects.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
  • Manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Participate in peer reviews and assists in support of Geomechanical analysis and reservoir engineering.
  • Ability to use industry software applications and platforms.
  • Conduct all business activities in agreement with CNPC USA core values.

Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Petroleum or related Engineering field(s).
  • 15+ years of experience in Completion Engineering and/or Stimulation Design Engineering, particularly within unconventional reservoirs.
  • Experience in the unconventional reservoirs in North America and any on-site FRAC stimulation are desirable.
  • Additionally, experience in reservoir engineering within unconventional settings is greatly valued.
  • Proficiency in FRAC modeling and the implementation of integrated FRAC design workflows using GOHFER, StimPlan, ResFrac and/or similar industry-standard software is essential.
  • Advanced programming skills, especially in Python and familiarity with the Pandas library, are preferred.
  • Competency in Spotfire, managing large datasets, and creating impactful data visualizations to drive business decisions are also preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to multitask and analyze situations to recommend effective solutions.
  • Must be able to work well within a team and with other departments, demonstrating qualities such as positivity, openness to new ideas, and collaborative spirit to maximize the value from assets.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Travel: This position requires international and domestic travel. Local travel between other CNPC USA locations is required.
