Principal Data Scientist - Operational Research & Optimisation

Join the Operational Decision Support (ODS) team at British Airways, where we leverage advanced optimisation tools and techniques to enhance the efficiency and performance of our airline operations. This department is essential in ensuring smooth operations and driving innovation within our organisation.

What you'll do:
  • Lead the development of quantitative optimisation models to solve critical operational challenges.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and enhance digital tools that support operational optimisation.
  • Implement predictive and prescriptive algorithms at scale, integrating them into systems to improve efficiency.
  • Manage and prioritise the team's project portfolio within an agile framework, ensuring impactful delivery.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing strategic decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, utilising operational research to deliver significant business value.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in operational research, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • What you'll bring to British Airways:
  • Extensive experience applying operational research techniques to tackle complex business problems.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences effectively.
  • Proven stakeholder management capabilities and the ability to influence key decision-makers.
  • Experience in managing software development projects from inception to completion, focused on operational improvements.
  • Proficiency in Python and other programming languages for developing production-ready solutions.
  • Your experience:
  • A strong background in operations research, data science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience applying advanced optimisation techniques in a business context.
  • Proven expertise in managing data science projects that deliver measurable operational improvements.
  • Proficiency in Python and other relevant programming languages, with experience in building scalable, production-level solutions.
