We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer - Pipe Stress, reporting directly to hiring manager to join our piping team based in Houston, Texas, USA. About the Job: Perform stress analysis as needed to assess ensure piping design meets the intent of applicable codes and standards as well as specific manufacturers standards for safe efficient operation of unit. Engineer will also develop standards and guidelines as needed to govern development of stress analysis on a general as well as project specific basis. Candidate will coordinate with overseas offices to guide them in project related stress analysis work as well as review and seal documents to in accordance with State and other governing bodies requirements. The engineer will be required to:
  • Develop work hour estimates, plans and budgets for bids as well as for assigned projects
  • Track and report progress during project execution
  • Supervise and review work of the piping team (engineers and designers), including those in HVEC's
  • Interpret project design standards and issuing directives/design highlights to ensure consistency in application
  • Coordinate piping documentation and design issues with project managers and other design disciplines
  • Perform stress analysis and/or review and update existing analyses of piping systems connected to critical rotating equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, filters, Compressors, tanks, Turbines and Air coolers using Caesar II software to qualify piping in accordance with ASME codes, project standard and project specifications.
  • Evaluate calculated stress results, displacement stress range, and pipe support loads.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis for special piping fittings for evaluating stress intensification factor SIF for determining fatigue failure.
  • Review and approve project technical deliverables/documents.
  • Work with other engineers and designers in the resolution of the technical issues.
  • Perform dynamic modal analysis for calculating piping natural frequencies to prevent operational vibration issues, potential piping fatigue and provide a safe plant.
  • Update, approve and seal engineering calculations for final turn-over to client.
  • Mentor and guide other team members both locally and overseas on general as well as project specific requirements for completing work related to pipe stress and supports
About you Motivated, creative, quality focused applicants with:
  • Bachelor's or Advanced degree in engineering
  • a minimum of 15 years experience in the industry
  • Licensed Professional Engineer TX &/or LA and willing to apply for and obtain registration in other states/jurisdictions
  • Proficient in the use of:
    • Caesar II
    • Finite Element Analysis using FE Pipe, Nozzle Pro, FE Bend, FE SIF, Finite Element Flange Leakage Analysis.
    • Smart Plant Review (SPR) and/or NavisWorks
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Willing to travel overseas to work share offices and other locations as necessary to support the project.
