About this role

Job Summary

The Principal Engineer - Advanced Planning at Avangrid is responsible for leading the development and implementation of initiatives related to grid modernization technologies and clean energy goals. This role involves collaborating with various teams, conducting research on innovative tools, and providing technical leadership to enhance the electric system across Avangrid Networks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in power systems and distribution planning, along with excellent leadership skills and a passion for innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate with various teams within Avangrid and globally.
  • Perform research related to innovative tools and emerging technologies.
  • Coordinate the review and evaluation of new tools and solution alternatives.
  • Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert to mentor other Engineers.
  • Identify and perform special projects & studies to solve complex problems.
  • Develop new tools from concept to implementation to enhance existing processes.
  • Identify and implement best practices and process improvements.
  • Provide technical assistance and consulting to other departments.
  • Work with vendors, contractors, and consultants to develop and automate tools.
  • Assist in software product design and provide feedback to developers.
  • Present to Upper Management, Executives, and Regulatory Commissions.
  • Represent Avangrid Networks on technical committees.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Power systems engineering expertise
  • Knowledge of the distribution planning process
  • Experience with distribution power flow software and grid model management
  • Experience with Grid Modernization and Clean Energy concepts
  • Capacity planning during normal and contingency system configurations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Python Scripting
  • SQL
  • Cyme power flow analysis
  • JIRA project management
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE)
