Position Summary Bold Charter School is growing and we are searching for aspiring school leaders to join our team, and grow with us, as we build toward middle school. As a Principal-in-Residence, you will train alongside current leadership, developing the skills to become a highly effective principal at Bold. You will develop a deep understanding of Bold's model and leverage your instructional background to coach and develop teachers in a student-centered, outcomes-oriented environment. As you grow in the role, you will further develop your leadership skills through in-depth coaching and applied practice in the areas of curriculum and instruction, talent development, and site management. Principals-in-Residence play a key role on the school leadership team, and work with Bold's teachers, students, staff, and families on a daily basis to achieve outcomes and prepare to lead a future Bold site. To help us achieve our vision, we are searching for candidates who have a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years of instructional experience, and demonstrated leadership in a high-performing K-12 setting. A relevant graduate degree is preferred. Ideal candidates will have a commitment to improving educational outcomes in traditionally underserved communities, a growth-oriented mindset, and the foundational belief that every child deserves a world-class education. As a Principal-in-Residence at Bold Charter School, you will be part of a results-oriented and collaborative team of professionals who are relentless in their pursuit of educational excellence. You will receive regular coaching and feedback, and will have opportunities to grow into a transformative leader within the organization. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing a deep understanding of effective school leadership strategies at Bold; building on that knowledge to ensure consistent progress toward strategic academic, operational, and organizational goals
- Developing and leading regular coaching and professional development cycles aimed at increasing instructional capacity of lead teachers and teaching fellows
- Driving high academic outcomes for all students by regularly analyzing data, studying student work, and coaching teachers on implementing high-leverage instructional strategies to ensure gains for all students
- Developing strong relationships with families and students, including regular communication that creates high levels of investment in school culture and academics
- Supporting a culture of operational excellence across the school, collaborating with school leadership and operations team members on all aspects of school site management
- Supporting the recruitment, hiring, and effective onboarding of a team that is highly aligned with Bold's mission, vision, and values; contributing to a student-centered, outcomes-oriented culture that drives high levels of achievement
- Modeling Bold's core values and building a positive student and team culture across the school
- Training with colleagues and school leaders, which includes regularly implementing feedback with grace and urgency in service of student achievement, a values-based school culture, a positive professional work environment, and personal leadership development
- Demonstrating a mission-first mindset to ensure all decisions and actions are rooted in ensuring that all students excel
Successful candidates should:
- Be passionate about teaching and learning
- Have 3+ years of teaching experience with a record of high levels of student achievement and a demonstrated ability to deliver rigorous and inquiry-based instruction; progressive experience in a school leadership role preferred
- Hold exceptionally high personal standards for performance and possess an excellence reflex that constantly raises the bar
- Be a person of high moral character and with well-developed emotional intelligence
- Demonstrate an ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize strategically
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to and alignment with the mission, beliefs, and values of Bold, and to going above and beyond the requirements of the job
- Have the ability to work within a fast-paced and dynamic team environment where responsibility for student success is shared and owned by everyone
- Hold a commitment to solutions-based problem solving and previous experience of such
- Hold a valid NYS teaching certification (preferred, but not required)
- Hold a Bachelor's degree with an outstanding record of achievement and leadership; graduate degree preferred
Start Date The start date for this position is flexible. Compensation Bold Charter School offers highly competitive compensation, in the top range of comparable positions across New York City charter schools. The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000 annually and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
