DescriptionTHIS POSITION IS PER DIEM (On-Call or As Needed)Acts in a technical support role under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and/or licensed/registered pharmacy technician. They are not permitted to compound, fill prescriptions, handle control substances or counsel patients. The Pharmacy Clerk performs basic administrative and organizational tasks in a pharmaceutical setting.Essential Functions:
- Stock non-control medications under the direct supervision of a technician.
- Stock supplies.
- Greet patients, family's visitors and provides assistance in a positive and friendly manner.
- Direct patients to other services and respond to inquiries as appropriate.
- Check patients into pharmacy, updates and maintain log of all patient visits.
- Answer phone, takes/routes messages and provides basic and/or routine information in response to inquiries.
- Forward patient reports to ordering physicians and other authorized recipients.
- File and copy documents in a timely manner. Receives and distributes mail.
- Maintain confidential patient information in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Review and update patient, demographic, and insurance information. Obtains additional information necessary to facilitate authorization of care and receive payment for pharmacy services and pharmaceuticals.
- Perform visual inventory of stock items; Orders office supplies to support operations.
- Collect, maintain, and assess a variety of data.
- Identify, report, and help resolve system issues and/ or other items in need of repair such as submitting a ticket or calling a vendor.
- Participate in departmental orientation, training, and quality assurance programs.
- Participate in department and hospital educational programs to maintain and advance current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor.
- Preform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of pharmacy or healthcare experience preferred
- Six months of customer service and/or clerical experience; health care setting preferred
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire preferred
