Basic Position Objective Statement:
The Process Control Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining the mill's control systems to minimize process variation and reduce costs. This position works with maintenance and operations personal to optimize the control systems and works with technical and production teams to plan and design new applications.
Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Responsible in providing design, implementation, and support for existing and new Process Control systems. This includes Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), as well as custom control applications used to meet manufacturing needs and production goals.
* Responsible for system backups, network troubleshooting, and computer hardware maintenance.
* Design and implement process control strategies to support new and existing processes to include process efficiency improvements and optimization, process variability reduction, compliance with environmental and safety requirements and equipment/process reliability.
* Select and approve hardware and software designs for new process automation projects.
* Consider the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future manufacturing environment.
* Train operators and maintenance personnel on new control functions.
* Assist technical groups with process improvement activities.
* Assist in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and Root Cause Failure
* Analysis (RCFA) investigations.
* Responsible for business continuity of process control systems through documentation, training and management-of-change process.
* Share the responsibility for providing weekend and off-hour support for all Process Control mill needs.

Knowledge, Education and Training Qualifications and Certifications:
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, advanced process control, or electro-mechanical technology
* Experience in the pulp and paper industry.
* Knowledge of ABB process equipment.
* PLC programming or ability to troubleshoot these systems.
Key Functional Competencies:
* Ability to communicate in both oral and written form. Must have the skills necessary to perform project scope definitions and manage a wide variety of technical projects. Must be willing to be on-call to support production needs.
* Ability to evaluate processes and equipment operation; plan and manage process improvement projects.
* Ability to read and understand P&ID's loop sheets, and electrical drawing
* Operator interface programming experience to include Factory Talk ME, Factory Talk SE, DCS / MCS PLC / Server configuration, PLC Hardware instillation / troubleshooting, Control Logix, Historian troubleshooting / service
PI duties to include Tag configuration, Screen Development, Alarm notification / Routing, Server / Thinn Client troubleshooting / modifications

Physical Requirements:
The ability to work in a normal manufacturing environment to include: sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time; climbing stairs; operating various standard office equipment; carrying paper documents/files; reaching; bending; crawling; speaking on the telephone; wearing required personal protection gear (i.e. hearing, eye and foot protection); tolerating loud noise (maximum of 95 dB); tolerating extreme heat, cold and dusty environment.
