What you will do:

This position performs a variety of process and mechanical engineering tasks within the back end continuous process units at the Charleston site. This position will provide technical support and engineering services to operations and service units as necessary to provide for safe operations and assure regulatory compliance and availability of production units

  • In conjunction with EIC engineering counterpart, assure availability of production units at required capacity and quality under the pre-requisite of safety.
  • Become an expert capable of exercising engineering judgment with respect to equipment reliability, performance optimization, and assigned subject matters.
  • Perform engineering design/exercise engineering judgment to improve equipment as necessary in accordance with management of change (MOC), RAGAGEP, and other PSM-compliant programs.
  • Coordinate and/or support plant and corporate engineering capital and expense projects.
  • Support process and technology transfer/exchange between Wacker's Polysilicon production sites (domestic and international).
  • Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering & Maintenance department, Operations and other service units with focus on achieving optimal results/solutions from a corporate/enterprise perspective (both interdisciplinary and intercultural).
  • Represent Wacker's interests towards authorities, suppliers and contractors.
  • Upkeep of documentation, equipment records, and BOMs.
  • Participate in commissioning of new and modified production sites.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of system or unit turnarounds.
  • Conduct and coordinate debottlenecking and troubleshooting activities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What we need from you:

  • B.S. degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical preferred)
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience is required; 5+ years is preferred
  • Thorough technical knowledge in the fields of chemical and mechanical engineering, incl. relevant regulations, mechanical maintenance strategies (pumps, heat exchangers, etc.), continuous and/or batch process background, applicable RAGAGEP
  • Familiarity with PSM/OSHA 1910, particularly in relation to process safety systems and management of change.
  • Experience working with process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, pipeline isometrics, and equipment drawings.
  • Understanding of function and design of processing equipment and piping systems including pressure relief devices, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, etc.
  • Familiarity with relevant API (520/521/576) and ASME standards
  • Objective judgement and fact-based decision-making approach.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams.
  • Ability to learn and utilize computer software programs.
  • Preferred, but not required: SAP EAM, COMOS, project management training (formal or on-the-job)
  • Must be physically fit to wear an air purifying respirator if necessary.
  • Due to schedule and milestone requirements, a nonstandard work schedule such as nights, holidays, and/or weekends may be required.
  • High level of initiative/self-starter attitude highly valued in this position
