As a Process Safety Manager, you will lead and provide critical support to ensure the successful execution of a robust PSM program, addressing risks, ensuring compliance with OSHA 29CFR 1910.119 standards, and fostering a culture of safety across all operations.
Key Responsibilities of Process Safety Manager:
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of PSM risks and controls at the facility, ensuring program health and compliance.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop short- and long-term PSM objectives, strategies, and measures that prioritize risk mitigation.
- Execute an annual Health & Safety and PSM plan, tracking progress with measurable metrics.
- Connect with operating units, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure understanding of risks and ongoing projects.
- Maintain OSHA-required PSM programs, ensuring full regulatory compliance as a PSM chemical facility.
- Lead the development and use of PSM metrics, including API-754 events, SSFs, MOC and PHA recommendations.
- Oversee the collection and management of Process Safety Information (PSI), ensuring it is easily accessible and maintained.
- Support and drive resolution of Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) recommendations.
- Partner with corporate EHS/PSM teams to drive best practices and consistency across locations.
- Conduct regular employee and leadership interactions to promote safety, accountability, and ongoing development.
- Ensure disciplined records management for a robust and inspection-ready program.
- Provide technical support to facility personnel, maintaining compliance with OSHA laws and site procedures.
- Collaborate with the reliability team to coordinate required inspections and address findings promptly.
- Support PSM audits and system self-assessments to ensure preparedness for regulatory inspections.
- Work closely with the Environmental Lead on RMP program elements and compliance assurance.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for operational events and incidents, ensuring timely corrective actions.
- Engage in capital and expense project planning to ensure effective risk reduction and protection layers.
- Oversee the sites MOC and PSSR programs, providing expertise and leadership in process safety input.
- Advise on the development of operating procedures and engineering standards to enhance safety measures.
Qualifications to be a Process Safety Manager:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, or a similar industry.
- Strong Process Safety experience is required.
- Proficient in MS Office and experience with databases.
Preferred Qualifications to be a Process Safety Manager:
- Formal training in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Exposure to Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), SIFs, and SILs.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
- Skilled in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology and PHA software.
