Job Description:

The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Central Appointment Clerk. This employee is responsible for scheduling appointments for patients calling into the Department of Public Health. This position functions as a backup Registration Clerk for the agency.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

* Answer phone calls from patients requesting an appointment in a Health Department clinic. Ask screening questions to determine if patient is eligible to receive services in requested clinic based on agency policies.

* Accurately enter demographic information into Electronic Health Record system to create a new patient profile.

* Accurately update demographic information for existing patients

* Schedule eligible patients for an appointment. If additional information is needed, refer the patient to the clinic's triage for assistance

* Provide patients not eligible for service within our agency, community resources where they can receive care.

* While processing patient financial information, this employee encounters sensitive personal, financial, and medical information. This information is privileged, and the employee is responsible for protecting its confidentiality.

* This position will serve as registration backup for all clinics as needed.

Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management Preference: Medical office experience.

Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.

Applicants who have obtained their education outside of the U.S. and its territories must have their academic degrees validated as equivalent to the degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) is a referral resource for applicants who need to have their credentials certified as equivalent. High School and/or college transcripts, relevant certifications/licensures and verification of equivalent degree, if applicable, may be submitted on-line via the attachment feature or mailed to Cumberland County Department of Public Health Human Resources, 1235 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. * Significant knowledge of office methods and procedures, to include intermediate computer skills and medical terminology.

* Ability to practice effective communication skills both orally and in writing.

* Ability to always use excellent judgment skills.

* Ability to work well as a team member with all staff as set by departmental policies.

* Ability to use sound judgment, empathy in dealing with patients, and must be able to greet the public and respond effectively to a wide range of behaviors and exhibited attitudes.

* Ability to follow oral and written instructions well.

Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
