Location & commitments
Full-time based at our Greenville location in the Quadrangle Endoscopy Center, Monday-Friday, 7a.m. - 3 p.m.
Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner.
Supervision Received: Reports to Clinical Supervisor; Operations or Clinical Manager; Director of Operations.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking or other means of mobility for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries item weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires normal visual acuity. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to clinic environment.
About the role:
Responsible for the decontamination, prepping, packaging, and sterilization of all instrumentation processed through the department following established department procedures. Required specific skills also includes knowledge of decontamination processes, preparation, and packaging, sterilization techniques based on manufacturer recommendations, and storage of sterilized items, as well as knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field set-up and interpreting policies, procedures, and protocols and reviewing performance in compliance with recognized standards.
Responsibilities:
(may include, but are not limited to)
* Prepares, disinfects, tests, assembles, sterilizes, packages, and distributes a variety of supplies, instruments, and equipment to be used in patient care, often operating complicated disinfection and sterilization equipment
* Sterilize scopes, processing and procedural tools and other applicable tools and equipment.
* Assists in preparing the procedure room prior to the patient entering the room. Cleans rooms between cases with correct aseptic technique
* Processes incoming supplies and equipment.
* Collects used equipment and supplies.
* Assist with handling specimens: Obtaining, Labeling, Transporting and Verifying.
* Transport used scopes to the reprocessing room.
* Conforms to rules of safety and infection control while performing these tasks and maintains compliance with acceptable hospital and regulatory agency standards of quality.
* Transport patients if needed.
* Prepares or assists with recordkeeping as needed.
* Always maintaining patient privacy and confidentially.
* Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Nurse Supervisor, Physician and/or Administrator.
Candidate requirements
* Completed of a Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant required. Graduate of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician program and certification or related training preferred.
* Experience with sterilization process in an Ambulatory / Endoscopy Center or related environment.
* Knowledge of all equipment to include, but not limited to, steam sterilization (autoclave), manual and automated reprocessing scope and related equipment, medivators that provide decontamination and sterilization of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
* Current American Heart Association basic CPR certification.
