Job Description:
SUMMARY: The primary technical liaison for the Tire Service Product offerings, including assisting with all necessary tasks that contribute to the monthly publication of the Tire Service reports and Component Volume & Weight reports. They will oversee the long-term product design strategy for Tire Services and owning the Product Development Planning Process. Must combine direct feedback from the voice of the customer, evolving tire technology design, the latest process advancements that effect design, evolving tire markets, and collaboration with technology subject matter experts to determine and anticipate customer needs to offer new and improved product and/or service offerings for Tire Service and Smithers laboratories. Must understand and complete thorough investigation(s) of cut tire sections using measurement tools, microscope images and computer aided design (CAD) software. Also assists with all necessary tasks that contribute to the timely deliverance of the monthly publication of the Tire Service reports and Component Volume & Weight reports.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Exhibits a thorough understanding of the production process and all technical content inside the Tire Service reports. Is the primary technical liaison to the customer, keeping abreast of new features and innovations, clients' needs and wants, all while consistently keeping customers fully engaged. Prepares CAD drawings and models to calculate tire component volumes and weights. Performs calculations and comprehensive data analysis for tire compositional analysis. Conducts measurements of tire component for comparative design analysis and reporting. Using knowledge of the current technology and markets, identifies and develops innovation(s) and unique product offerings and differentiators to further build relationships with existing clients and attracting new customers. Researches and stays on top of current trends and innovations in tires and tire performance industry. Assists TS Service manager in quality improvement and/or efficiency improvement projects as they effect products and/or services. Works with the internal team(s) and the North America marketing staff in identifying sales opportunities and thereby maximizing revenues for the Tire Service business. Meets potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging an industry network by attending conferences, events, and technical visits. Calls on tire industry and raw material suppliers to the industry which include technical representatives such as technical directors, engineers, compounders, and other technical personnel as well as buyers, librarians and business executives. Provides presentations, training and troubleshooting for existing clients and presents to prospective clients the various Tire Service Report offerings as well as other Smithers Group Member Companies services, presenting technical information gleaned from the Tire Services Report research. May need to travel domestically and internationally to visit and groom prospective and existing clients approximately 20% of time. May work with and provide guidance and support to Tire Service BDM in Asia.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Technical degree in Engineering, or Engineering Science and five (5)+ years related experience and/or training in tire development engineering required. Experience in technical sales preferred. CAD experience (SolidWorks) needed. Familiarity with basics of tire development (both materials and construction), tire production processes, tire testing, performance analysis, governmental regulations, and forensic activities expected.
