Job Summary:
Cyalume Technologies, Inc. is looking for an individual to help us build understanding of all aspects of our chemistry as we continue to innovate. Our ideal candidate has a solid background and skillset in synthetic organic chemistry, as well as familiarity with formulation and process development. The candidate will contribute to CTI's growth by providing synthetic support for collaborative projects in a dynamic lab setting, where both discovery and process chemistry projects are on-going.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Design, and conduct the synthesis, purification and characterization of small organic molecules of interest.
* Design and test novel formulations, including performing initial scale-up for new formulations.
* Assist in the development of testing procedures for new formulations and devices.
* Operation and upkeep of a variety instruments such as light meters, spectrometers, HPLC, GC, among others.
* Maintain excellent laboratory records and provide written or oral reports and research summaries as required.
* Interact closely with other scientists and engineers to develop comprehensive solutions.
* Engage with cross-functional colleagues as necessary as projects move through the stage gate process.
* Participate in intellectual property creation.
Requirements:
* MS/MA in Chemistry or Chemical Engineeringwith5 years experience or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with3years experience.
* Synthesis experience in small organic molecules from gram to kilo scale. Experience in organometallic and coupling chemistry will be a strong plus. Experience with implementation of flow chemistry will be a plus.
* Strong awareness of chemical hazards and commitment to a culture of safety.
* Proven scientific and technical ability to design and execute synthetic route design, product purification, optimization of chemistry, and analysis of data. Experience with analytical methods such as NMR, HPLC, LCMS, UV-vis and IR.
* Broad experience in purification techniques such as recrystallization and chromatography.
* Motivated and self-driven individual with the ability to work independently, and support team and corporate objectives within expected timelines.
* Use of various programs including MS Office, ChemDraw, Reaxys, SciFinder or equivalent software. Experience with ELN programs and ERP systems will be considered a plus.
