Where the Chemistry Happens
The Product Regulations Specialist has the responsibility to support BASF ECT business group by assuring product compliance to International, Federal, State and local regulations.
This individual must understand costs to business and be cognizant of regulatory impacts on BASF products, markets, and customers, while working independently within defined responsibilities under minimum supervision and coordinating with others globally and domestically.
This is a temporary full-time 2-year project assignment.
Formula for Success
* Completion of all work with a commitment and focus on following all aspects of the guiding principles of BASF Responsible Care.
* Offer customer support and troubleshoot regulatory issues for the business while providing regulatory expertise to mitigate/ensure no non-compliance issues occur.
* Support sales and marketing initiatives and day-to-day business operations.
* Develop working relationships with BASF Groups and working in a cross-functional environment closely with Business Marketing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Operations, Sampling, and Customer Service Teams in North American and with our global contacts in Europe, Asia Pacific, Central American, and South America.
* Routinely interface with Operations, R&D, Quality, EHS, Regulatory, Raw Materials, CoE, Stewardship, Toxicology, Legal, Marketing, Customer Care, Supply Chain, and Master Data teams by actively participating in relevant meetings.
* Work with the UN Global Harmonization System (GHS) to support imports and exports for Europe and Asia Pacific regions.
* Strong SAP skills preferred, especially experience with EHS module Global Trade Control System and Global Label Management and SDS creation.
* Expert with Master Data process and the creation and maintenance of SAP articles; includes create and maintain material master, bills of material, manufacturing recipes, quality management, data extraction, and other data elements related to the material master.
* Responsible for monitoring and managing all data requirements and compliance documents in support of the Global Trade System and control activities in SAP for local, regional and global regulations, including GTS classifications.
* Proactively managing current and completed Master Data using the EHS SAP module to assure compliance with NA HAZCOM, TSCA, CEPA and other chemical and product regulations.
* Additional SAP responsibilities include: support and maintain recipe management tasks, troubleshooting issues related to material master data, improve processes to successfully process material requests, creating/maintaining/updating recipes, raw materials and inspection plans for production sites, maintaining recipes/RM records, creation/maintenance of material master data in accordance with established procedures to ensure conformity, data integrity, and compliance.
* Core management and tracking weekly updates for MoC processes and provide support KPI/metrics for respective processes.
* Identify process improvements opportunities and propose potential solutions.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills needed to engage with global and regional business contacts.
* Participate and potentially lead projects and take on additional tasks as needed.
Ingredients for Success
* Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Toxicology, Chemistry, Sciences or other technical discipline is required.
* Minimum of 4 years of experience in product regulations/regulatory affairs/product stewardship or related fields.
* Must be familiar with BASF product families and the chemistry associated with them.
* Strong knowledge of regulations that may affect BASF products, markets, and systems is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of EHS, TSCA, hazard communications standard (OSHA GHS and WHMIS 2015), as well as a good understanding of chemistry.
* Understanding/knowledge of other product regulations topics such as FIFRA (biocides), FDA, DEA, CWC and HTS is preferred.
* Strong Master Data Management and data analysis experience is required.
* Must demonstrate ability to manage projects effectively.
* Comfortable using MS Office tools. (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Work Schedule: onsite 5 days a week at our New Providence, NJ office for 6 months, then will transition to a hybrid schedule which will be 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.
* Travel for this position is 5-10%
