General Description:
The Fiber Former works to ensure safe, productive, high-quality fiber formation and chopped strand production. Works with bushings, air flows, quench and pre-pad sprays, applicators, gathering shoes, choppers, etc. to ensure production goals are met. Fiber Former will perform work duties from written or verbal work instructions in accordance with furnace operating procedures. Will possess a working knowledge of scale weighing equipment and collection systems. Monitors critical process variables and product quality. Adheres to all plant policies and rules.
Essential Functions:
- Must have ability & willingness to perform at the excepted level of attendance at MW/MB; to work every day, on time, as scheduled. Ability to work safely following all policies and procedures; safety is a condition of employment.
- Pulls glass from bushings, gathering properly, and places into a chopper.
- Quickly repairs breakouts and returns bushing to production.
- Ensures efficient chopper operation. Troubleshoots and implements corrective action.
- Monitors critical process variables and product quality, including but not limited to, bushing temperatures, air flows, spray pressure and volume, applicator speed, chopper speed, and cut quality. Inspect fiber: every 15 minutes and document inspection checks per work instructions. Takes appropriate corrective action when needed.
- Inspects bushings and ensures proper operation, including but not limited to, water flow, air flow, and leaks.
- Identifies poor performing bushings and positions. Troubleshoots and implements corrective action.
- Obtains bushing melt rate samples.
- Inspects applicators and binder delivery system and ensures proper operation, including but not limited to, level control, strand coverage, leaks, etc.
- Assign all product identification labels or tickets.
- Package fiber into boxes or tubs.
- Inspect fiber production on belt deck for defects.
- Inspect fiber conveyors and picker rolls for dry fiber, clumps, and fiber build up.
- Weigh, package, seal and label all fiber production.
Nonessential Functions:
- Posses and demonstrates a working knowledge of statistical process control and process variation reduction.
- Understands and demonstrates process alignment ability.
- Utilizes reports to gather information, monitor progress, and implement corrective action.
- Follows written and verbal communications and instructions.
- Works safely with no accidents. Maintains acceptable housekeeping. Participates in the plant's safety and housekeeping initiatives.

Training Requirements:
- 3 years of work experience preferred.
- General and all job-specific training including safety and teambuilding, etc.

- Regularly pushes brooms & pulls long heavy hoses to perform cleaning tasks.

PPE Requirements:
- Where required, safety glasses with side shields, earplugs, safety shoes, gloves and protective sleeves.
